  • Tiny Isle of Skye motorhome site with views over the Outer Hebrides
  • A 20-minute drive from the Quiraing and 50 minutes from the Storr
  • Fenced meadow for dog walking; Uig Ferry Terminal 15 minutes’ drive
If you have been eyeing up Isle of Skye landscapes such as the Quiraing, Fairy Glen and Storr, checking in at Clouds Skye Meadow will place you one step closer. This tiny welcoming Hebrides site is just off the A855, around 15 minutes’ drive south of the Uig Ferry Terminal, and has a gorgeous communal garden with views of the sea and the Outer Hebrides, stunning sunsets and – if you’re very lucky – sightings of the Northern Lights too. Reaching the isle’s famed hikes and landscapes is an easy feat here, as the pitches are a 20-minute drive from the Quiraing mountain hike and Fairy Glen and 50 minutes from the Storr. For those heading on to the Outer Hebrides after this trip, the Uig Ferry Terminal is only a 15-minute drive north of the site. Making your next skip down south? Portree is a 35-minute drive away. Downtime is nicely spent unwinding with a good book on the deckchairs at Clouds Skye Meadow or walking your dogs in the fully fenced communal meadow. The hardstanding pitches all have electric hook-up and access to wifi, and there's also a flushing toilet, a wet-room-style shower with hot water, and a small sheltered kitchen area for making sandwiches and other meals on site. Exploring the local area on two wheels is easy; an electric bicycle centre is in Bornisketaig, five minutes’ drive away. Cycle to the local bar and restaurant for dinner, or get stuck into seafood like scallops, prawns, seafood chowder and prawns at the licensed seafood restaurant and takeaway in Earlish, 15 minutes’ drive away. A cosy pub is also a 15-minute drive away.

Local attractions

Your chance to see bagpipes in action is just a mile away from Clouds Skye Meadow: Kilmuir Community Hall (five minutes’ drive) runs occasional traditional music events and pop-up cafés. Local spots are some of the nicest places to get away from the tourist crowds, and Camus More beach (10 minutes) is absolutely one of those, with a small slipway, patches of sand and rockpools. Of course, Skye’s tourist destinations are popular for good reason. At Staffin beach (35 minutes), there are fossilised dinosaur footprints left by a Hadrosaur – just make sure to arrive at the mudstone slab at low tide in order to see them – and a stunning stretch of black sand. The Fairy Glen (20 minutes), fondly known as a miniature Quiraing, looks like something out of a fairy tale. No wonder this dramatic, craggy landscape is popular with hikers, as well as being the topic of several folk tales featuring fairies – hence the name.
