  • Family-run site set alongside the Comeragh Mountains
  • A 10-minute drive from Clonmel and surrounded by walking paths
  • Kitchen and a thatched wine bar serving food and homemade soda bread
A little bit of the mountains, a little bit of lakes and a lot of Irish charisma – sounds like something you could dabble in? Then, dabble away at Powers The Pot Caravan and Camping Park, which is set alongside the Comeragh Mountains in Co. Waterford. This dog-friendly, family-run park is a 10-minute drive away from historic Clonmel, where guests can pretty easily find a local bar to listen to traditional music on many nights of the week. Ample opportunities to listen to traditional music – tick. Ample opportunities for hiking? Absolutely, tick. Maps and advice are available at the park for walks in the local mountains and woods. That’s not all in the way of outdoor activities, though. Fishing, horse riding, tennis and golf are well within reach, with a golf course five minutes’ drive away and a sports club providing tennis, pitch and putt and badminton 10 minutes’ drive away. Back to the gorgeous local town of Clonmel, though. Its medieval walls are gathered in the northwest corner of the town, and there’s also a tall gate at the western entrance called West Gate. Ruins of an 18th-century castle, a garden and Old St Mary’s Church should keep you googly-eyed, while the town’s shops and restaurants keep you well-fed. This welcoming site has a very good set of facilities to add to the spectacular views. Free hot showers, laundry and an adjoining campers’ kitchen are very handy, but many guests’ favourite spot is the thatched wine bar, which has a traditional peat fire and sells excellent cuisine and homemade soda bread.

A friendly, rustic campsite in a beautiful spot. Reviewers love the welcoming staff, atmospheric bar with a real fire & spacious pitches. Facilities are basic but clean. Some see the charm in its slightly rough edges, others feel it needs a refresh. Great for outdoor fun!

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Overall very good campsite and good value too. Quiet and friendly atmosphere. We stayed for 2 nights with our toddler, it was his first camping experience and he had a great time.
Toilets and showers are in need of an update but they're kept clean.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Quiet and tranquil site. Powered pitch was fine, easy access to power unit. Lots of wildlife.

Disliked Owner gave our pitch away the first night after we paid deposit to secure it because we didn't arrive until 9.30PM. Had to park in the yard between the social building and toilet block the first night, asked for 50% off for that night as didn't have the pitch we paid for, was refused as the owner stated Pitch Up got the deposit and kept this as their fee, not him. It was the aug bank hol weekend, busiest of the year and the owner was under considerable pressure for pitches and also I understand has had some other issues, and the discussion was civil, but was disappointed he wouldn't meet us halfway on the cost of the first night.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Peaceful and honest to description of site. Margot was friendly, helpful with a lovely sense of humour and showed us where all the facilities were. These were perfectly clean and functional. Loved the thatched, currently in the process of being re thatched, building for use of guests to eat drink and be sociable. As a last minute booking we couldn’t wish for more.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Really liked the peaceful surroundings, not too crowded and we were able to bring our dog .
Great base for tents to pitch , electricity and running water, wastebin all in close proximity to pitches , There is a small bar on site where you can either bring your own drink or purchase at the bar, they do have muscians playing on certain nights. We were also able to have a fire pit once it was raised so made for a very enjoyable stay, we are booking to go again in September .

Disliked Toilets and showers although serviceable with plenty of soap and paper really could do with a renovation, have stayed in Poorer sites with better facilities

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Such a quirky campsite. At first I thought it was closed.. the thatched cottage where I thought I would be eating looked in need of refurbishment and there didn't seem to be anyone about. I'm so pleased I stayed. Didn't get any food but met some lovely people and the guy playing the music was great entertainment... and a lovely fire. Had a couple of old fashioned bottles of Guiness. Met the owner...a lovely guy. Had a great chat with a guy from Wales. The music guy finished off singing Christmas songs.

Disliked Just wish they had some food on campus. Was looking forward to it.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Quiet location with plenty of space and level pitches. The trees surrounding the site help block the wind too. Water, electric points and bins all around the site. The hosts are very helpful and always around if needed.

Disliked Not really a dislike but some additional play equipment for older children would be a nice addition.

Local attractions

Make sure you have a pen and paper handy to jot down all the lovely walks that you could plan from Powers The Pot Caravan and Camping Park. The Nire Valley (10 minutes’ drive) might wind up at the top of the list, as its lakes are frankly gorgeous. Coumshingaun Lough (15 minutes) is a particularly lush local lake. The five-mile trek there is steep, but the rocky bluff and gorgeous greenery are a worthwhile reward. Perhaps you’re looking to challenge yourself to a longer route than the aforementioned five miles. If so, luckily for you, the East Munster Way is within walking distance of the site, and weaves for 70 kilometres over all sorts of terrains, including woodlands, moors and countryside. Those who are more drawn to a peaceful pedal than a foot-based expedition can put the Sean Kelly Cycling Route first. It starts and ends near Dungarvan (35 minutes), passing by gorgeous villages, the River Blackwater, the heritage town of Lismore and Ardmore’s 12th-century cathedral.
