What customers say

Lovely woodland spot, peaceful with private pitches. Friendly staff, clean ablutions, handy shop. Great for Dartmoor adventures, with a pub nearby. Minor shower tweaks needed, but guests rave and want to return!

Non-electric forest floor tent pitch (wild)

Liked How quiet it was in mid October, it was lovely. The cleanliness of the facilities. The pitch I was allocated was perfect. Welcoming to motorcycles. Good value. Great location close to the dual carriageway, but no road noise. Dark skies, perfect for stargazing. Nice pub nearby but expensive. Easy to travel by motorbike to South Brent for groceries, there's a few shops plus two chip shops.

Non-electric gravel and earth campervan pitch (woodland)

Liked Relaxed informality. Peace and quiet. Lovely big space for the dogs. Good old fashioned camping with fire pits provided and gather your own fallen wood. Easy to find and access. Good pitch size for the van with planted earth bunds for privacy and our own water stand pipe. Composting loos at various locations but a good main facilities block, and little shop/reception with information. My two dogs just loved it.

Disliked Slight noise from A38 from our pitch (that is the price you pay for easy access) but that was mainly during peak periods of the day and was much more peaceful in the evenings when you want to eat out in the fresh air and settle down.

Non-electric forest floor tent pitch (wild)

Liked It was a beautiful stay and a very peaceful place. I liked being able use the hot showers, and kitchen area for kettle water to fill my thermostat. It was a great location that enabled us to go sightseeing during the day, we loved seeing the small horses whilst driving through dartmoor national Park. We also visited the beach and Mayflower museum that was great.

Microlodge

Liked I've been to Ashbourne Woods to hammock camp, stay in a tent and this time came with my partner and our dogs to stay in one of the microlodges, and we absolutely loved it.

The cabin was warm and clean, the bench outside was a nice touch, and the fire pit was a very welcome chillout area in the evenings.

The showers/toilet was close by and the washing up are was kept clean and tidy at all times.

On day 2 we needed to get a few bits from the shop, which is stocked with all the bare necessities you could think of, altough a garage is literally only a 3min drive away and a 1000 year old pub is less than a mile down the road.

Disliked Absolutely nothing!

Electric optional grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Very nice, peaceful, leafy campsite deep in the Devon countryside. I loved being surrounded by trees, the private fuel of the pitches and the lovely walk to the village. A top place to stay.

Disliked The push-tap showers didn't have great water pressure and also turned off very swiftly so I had to press multiple times to have a pretty short shower, but this was a minor gripe.

Local attractions

Tucked away needn’t mean being stuck for things to do… Set in the South Hams on the south coast of Devon, the campsite is just off the accessible A38, 10 miles from the sea and less than a mile from Dartmoor National Park. Half an hour’s drive away is Compton Castle, a manor with orchard-filled gardens for apple-y ambling around, while the National Trust’s Church House on Dartmoor is just over a 20-minute drive north. For active types, horse riding and sailing can also be jumped upon around Dartmoor and on the coast. Cast a line to Hatchlands Trout Farm, just ten minutes by car, for fly fishing on the well-stocked rainbow trout lake, or try the coarse fishing also available in the surrounding areas: ask the Ashbourne Woods team to point you and your rod in the right direction. As well as the nearby beaches to treat and tire out, day trips to keep little holidaymakers happy also include Pennywell Farm (less than five minutes away) where animal fans can snuggle the pigs, collect eggs, help feed the lambs and even try their hand at milking the goats; Woodland Family Theme Park for daredevil youngsters (just 30 minutes away), with rides, falconry display and zoo farm, and Staverton Steam Railway, the first choo-choo-choice for little locomotive fans.
