  • Friendly site easily accessible via the M20 and M2
  • A 10-minute drive to the seaside resort of Leysdown
  • On the outskirts of Minster village
An island base in south-east England 10 minutes' drive from sands and seaside resort: all is prepared for you and the crew at Plough Leisure Caravan Park on Kent's Isle of Sheppey – and it's all easily accessible via the M20 and M2. The park is on the outskirts of the large village of Minster, home of a Saxon abbey and its gatehouse museum, and an easy 10 minutes' drive from Sheppey's main seaside resort of Leysdown with sandy beaches and six family amusement arcades. The Shellness section of the Swale National Nature Reserve is around here too, along with skinny dipping for the stout-hearted at Swale naturist beach… On-site facilities at Plough include a playground and a field for ball games; for the essentials, there's a toilet and shower block, an outdoor washing-up area, a launderette and a chemical toilet disposal point. It's about 15 minutes' walk into town from here, and five to the nearest bus stop.

What customers say

A neat, friendly, peaceful spot with great value. Reviewers liked the welcoming staff, roomy pitches, and lots of space for kids to play. Facilities are generally clean, though some found them a bit dated with small shower cubicles. Great for exploring. Some noise from fellow campers reported.

Liked Kids park / beach only 15 mins away

Disliked After reading previous reviews I can personally confirm management did not walk around daily and speak with us.
We saw her on day one when booking in and when we were packing up and that’s it!
When we did try to go to the office on Sunday evening after 4pm she had already left for the day.
I can also confirm Saturday night toilet roll ran out in 3 toilet cubicles not one and a nice camper actually gave me some otherwise I’d have been stuck there.
I can also confirm noise levels were high after 10pm and the social club was very loud.
Pitches very small I’d even say a possible health and safety hazard due to spacing regulations not being followed like on other sites we’ve stayed.
Management even stated she had over booked and squeezed 3 lots of people and tents into 2 pitches. This caused them to over spill very close to us.
Shower was small and couple of the showers was so hot and the end shower was running cold so could not win

Liked Lovely takeaways around the area as well as good entertainment for children including a local market we visited apon our stay

Disliked The manager had spoken fine to my self but was then Rather rude when speaking to my partner when we asked to be placed along the side due to autistic children with us and young children he was told “absolutely not, I put caravans there” we accepted this and then set up our base camp, only find that the next day she put tents there anyway which was very over crowded and felt abit like sardines in a can, 2 pitches had 3 tents put init.

We never saw management other than on arrival and while leaving otherwise we never saw her threw out whole stay.

Management stated that the office was open until 6pm all day everyday but this was not the case as we tried to come to the office at 4:30pm and the office was locked and no manager in sight.

We requested a fire pit on arrival and if we didn’t speak to fell campers who was no longer using there’s we would have still be waiting as it never arrived.

Toilet rolls where not replaced at 9:30 as management stated as we have an autistic child who is potty trained and by 7/8pm most nights there was no tolilet roll, even when visiting at 7/8am there was still no toilet rolls.

First toilet in the girls bathroom had a hole in which anyone could watch you threw as well as being on the small side with no toilet for disabled people if needed, ramp was very steep leading up to the toilets which children struggled with.

Pitches was very small and close together and would have been a health and safety issue.

Park that was shown on pitch up is not what we got as a few items where no longer there and had clearly been removed

Pitch up also said was a laundromat on side which was also untrue, no form of shopping facilities on site, thank god for the local budgets that saved our holiday.

Liked Lovely staff.
Location.
Weather was stunning.
Park and space for kids is amazing.
Arcades and seafront only 12 minutes away.
Lots of decent takeaways.

Disliked Tents very close together. (We felt neighbouring tents were right on-top of us)
Every night there were noisy campers. (Not owners fault) (man shouting oh yeah!)
All 3 nights there was a party across the road at some sort of social club. (Not owners fault)
Sloping site and ground pretty uneven too.
Broken locks in both men’s and ladies toilets and showers.
Broken tiles in men’s shower.
A hole in one of the ladies toilet door.
Toilet roll ran out one night and wasn’t refilled at 9pm and still none throughout the night or next morning. (Lucky we had our own)
Facilities were pretty basic and kept to a decent level of cleanliness.

From the manager: Thank you for your review.
This was Bank Holiday Weekend and we were fully booked it is the busiest weekend of the year.
All of the toilets are checked and cleaned four times a day and toilet rolls were replaced each time however there is always an odd occasion when staff are not there at the exact time a roll of paper comes to the end. There are four toilets and you are able to use them all. I actually replaced a roll of paper at 9.30pm as I was informed by another guest that the roll had run out in toilet number 2. Staff replaced the only other roll of paper that had run out at 7.30am the following morning alongwith every roll that was nearing its end. This is routine and you must have noticed this as you only mention one toilet roll being empty over a three day weekend.
As General Manger I come to each guest every morning and speak to them to ask if there have been any issues and my office door is open every night until 6pm, I am available on my mobile 24/7 , this number is displayed on the door.
Plough Leisure always aim to keep our facilities very clean as mentioned in almost every review.
I am sad that you did not take the opportunity to speak to me when I walked around, especially as your review mentions that the staff were lovely. I could have given you the answers to your minor issues immediately as not only had the toilet roll been replaced but your other issues were being addressed at that moment.
Unfortunately guests did break locks in both toilets and they were replaced as quickly as possible.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Facilities were fairly basic but clean and tidy. Friendly staff.Last minute one night booking, so very happy to get a place. Arrived out of hours, but someone soon appeared to show us where to pitch and the available facilities. Summer hols so expected some excited children playing late but site very quickly quietened down after 9 pm.

Disliked A few dogs off lead on arrival, which had my dog travelled with me I would not have been happy about.

Electric grass pitch

Liked We had a lovely two night stay with our son and grandkids. They made lots of friends at the helicopter play park. This gave us a chance for some r&r.
We were met upon arrival and taken to our pitch and checked upon daily to ensure we were ok which was nice. A first for us was a picnic bench, that was lovely to cook and eat at.Plenty of space for us to try out our new driveaway awning which was a great addition. Thankfully we got it down just before the rain on leaving.
The site was just what we needed, a good plot with toilets, showers and washing up facilities when needed, all kept tidy.
Thank you to our hosts too.

Local attractions

Start off in popular seaside town Leysdown-on-Sea for beachy days punctuated by sugary doughnuts and a fish supper or two, then make it your mission to see the nature and landscapes of Sheppey before driving off-isle into Kent. Between Minster and Sheerness, Barton's Point Coastal Park (10 minutes' drive) covers 40 acres of wide open space popular for canalside walks, cycling and kite flying, and fishing, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and canoeing on its lake. Themed open days and funfairs are held in summer and a play area, café and picnic area are also around. The meadows and waterways of nearby Elmley National Nature Reserve (20 minutes) are tiptop for watching birds, insects, mammals, lizards and amphibians – and the sunrises and sunsets are pretty spectacular here too. (Give the reserve a call before setting off to check seasonal opening times.) Around Kent, travel along to Canterbury Cathedral, guided River Stour tours and the Canterbury Tales attraction at the county capital, 40 minutes from Plough Leisure, and to the gorillas, lions, elephants and more of nearby Howletts Wild Animal Park and the Port Lympne Wild Animal Experience, 50 minutes and an hour away. Howletts Wild Animal Park also has a treetop challenge for your own little critters to tackle. Kent's rural heritage is nicely covered at Kent Life in Maidstone (30 minutes), a family attraction with hands-on activities, play areas, tractor rides and animals to hold and feed.
