  • Spacious, friendly site on the Cumbrian coast
  • Fell walks, Lakes Coniston and Windermere within 45 minutes' drive
  • A few minutes from pubs, chip shop, dog-friendly beach and watersports
How’s this for having your cake and eating it? Harbour Lights Campsite is a couple of minutes’ walk from Haverigg beach on the Cumbrian coast – and behind it, with trails beginning 15 minutes' drive away, the famed hills and fells of the Lake District (not to mention those lakes themselves). No more tough choices, have the lot here. If you have any problems on this Cumbrian cracker of a site, it’ll be deciding what to do first. You could start by taking in the view: sunsets over the beach and sea with the hills looming in the background; on this friendly, well-kept but unfussy site there’s little to get in between you and the grand surroundings. Don’t fancy missing a minute in the open air? No problem, barbecues and firepits are all to hand. Dogs are welcome on site, on the beach next door and in many of the nearby pubs. On that note, there are places to sip and sup in Haverigg, and more of the same plus supermarkets in Millom, both about five minutes' drive away.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Great site for a walking base with miles of beach/coastal paths on the doorstep. We had a grass pitch which was a choice of anywhere on two flat fields divided by seasonal caravans. Modern shower block with all in one cubicles. The local village has a chippy, Londis, post office and two pubs. The adjacent campsite has a Ski bar open to all. Drive-over motorhome service point behind the shower block. Several site roads have just been resurfaced with tarmac.
We walked up to Silecroft 4.5 miles up the beach where there is a very good Sunset cafe for lunch.

Disliked: No WiFi and poor TV reception.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Views, bathrooms, huge pitches, staff, area, ice cream and coffee yum!
Fabulous sunsets

Disliked: Advertised Wi-Fi which is a lie as staff told us there isn’t any and no signal. We were on the farthest field but no facilities down there, one tap and no waste water grid, the amount of plant machines around not being used just parked up spoiled the view. It’s a shame as it could be great if there were some serviced pitches with Wi-Fi as I don’t mind the hike to the loo, most people drive up to use them. I think the owners are concentrating on putting more statics on and landscaping which is great but what about the basics for the tourers?

From the manager: Thank you for your comments.

Wi-Fi is currently being installed and not advertised online, I will check with Pitch Up to see if they have accidentally advertised it, prior to completion, but we have made everyone aware on our social media and via our office that it is currently a test line, not actually active, so apologies about that.

The area you were staying on, is currently being used as overflow for our main Camping & Touring area, unfortunately when you booked/arrived, all our typical pitch space was occupied. We never double book and due to it being Easter/Half Term, we have a lot of people on site, so we do our best to suffice every guests' needs. The area you were sited on is a new complex, designed and created for Seasonal Guests, who typically have their own facilities onboard. However, we are in the process of having planning permission approved, to build another amenities building closer to that location. We apologies if this didn't live up to expectations, I would suggest any guest, books well in advance, as to not be disappointed where they are placed on site.

We apologise about your view not being the best. As you can see, we have recently been awarded funding and permission to expand the Static Area of our site, so there is constant building & redevelopment work happening on site for the foreseeable. We try our best to keep the work during the week, but it does mean some machinery will be left dormant over the weekend.

Local attractions

Haverigg’s wide sandy beach is fab for walks, castle building and kite-based antics, from flying them to being hauled along the sands in buggies at high speed. If you’re after activities on the water, Port Haverigg Wakepark five minutes’ drive away has something wet and wild for everyone. Without straying too far, you can also go horse trekking through the countryside and galloping on the beach from Murthwaite Green trekking centre, or get your kicks with wheels and mud included at Haverigg Motocross Track (both 10 minutes). For walks with wildlife, it’s five minutes to RSPB Hodbarrow, where hosts of rare birds and plants thrive in the distinctive wetland environment. If you want to get higher, Black Combe is officially England’s biggest hill, 30 feet short of being a mountain and accessible by trails starting about 15 minutes' drive away in Wicham. Walks up the famed Old Man and surrounding fells start in Coniston, 40 minutes away. For lakes, well, take your pick… Windermere is 45 minutes away, for boat cruises, steamer trips and watersports as well as lakeside walks and cycling. Families make for Muncaster Castle (half an hour), on account of its Harry Potter-like appearance, resident ghost, adventure trails and playground and its Hawk and Owl centre with regular feeding and flying shows. For even wilder wildlife, the South Lakes Safari Zoo is 40 minutes away or you can Go Ape yourselves at Grizedale, zipping through the forest treetops on wires and ropeways (50 minutes).
