  • Motorhome pitches in woodland a 10-minute drive from Lake Windermere
  • Lakeland Motor Museum five minutes’ drive; Ulverston 15 minutes
  • Playground and duck pond; sauna and hot tub; launderette; shop
Experience the stunning landscape of the Lake District – but without the tourist madness often associated with the area – by staying at Black Beck Holiday Park, a peaceful site on the fringes of the national park. You’re only a 10-minute drive along the A590 from the southernmost tip of Lake Windermere here, which puts waterfront hikes and water-based activities within easy-peasy reach. Motorhome pitches (with water and drainage hook-up points) occupy an area of mature woodland with exquisite views of distant mountains. Among the on-site facilities is a secure children’s playground (with swings and see-saws), while the adults’ play area includes a sauna and a hot tub (with which you might well fall in love after a few days of scrambling up fells…), plus a shop selling beer and other local specialities. If you prefer your beer in a more social setting, a pub in the village of Bouth (five minutes’ drive or a 20-minute walk) serves ales and traditional fare in a cosy setting with a woodburning stove and assorted taxidermy. There are more dining options along the A590, on the banks of the River Leven (about five minutes) and in the lively market town of Ulverston (15 minutes). Back at the site, take your dog (for which there is a small additional daily fee) for a walk along the site’s wooded paths down to the pond, where the kids can feed the ducks. In addition to a toilet/shower block with facilities for disabled guests, the site has a launderette (with an iron and a board) and a drying room.

Bluebell fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: Beautiful scenery, modern clean warm shower block. Friendly reception and pitch was flat and close to amenities. WiFi seemed reliable.
Great walks and a walkable pub.
Lovely duck pond and visiting ducks.

Disliked: The view from the touring pitches is limited, they are enclosed in a little enclave- it would have been nice to have a bit of the lovely scenery to see.

Bluebell fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Lovely well maintained campsite, very clean and tidy. Good toilet and shower facilities. Staff on reception very helpful and welcoming.

Disliked: Couldn't get a signal for the TV which is only a very minor gripe although people with children will understand a TV is good for keeping them quiet for a bit :)

Bluebell fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: A really well kept site, in a wonderful location.
Always staff around keeping the place clean and tidy.
Although a large site it didn't feel overly commercial with nice hedge bound pitches.
Great site office with lovely little shop.
There are some absolutely wonderful walks in the area all direct from the site. We'll definitely be going back again.

Anthropod camping pod (hot tub, pet friendly)

Liked: The park is very tidy and quiet. The staff are super nice and helpful. We stayed in a Pod, which is well maintained and the attention to detail is akin to a 5* hotel. Christy towels, plenty of blankets, throws and pillows to keep you cosy. Plus everything needed for a comfortable stay - fridge freezer, microwave, George Forman grill, gas hob with a lovely whistling kettle, toilet and shower and a small TV. There is lots of cooking equipment (pots, pans, jugs, utensils etc)
The Pod has a double bed and bunk beds that convert from a sofa.

Disliked: On occasions fast jets fly nearby which are very loud, but it's not often enough to spoil the site in any way.
The Wifi is unreliable and the mobile service isn't great in all areas of the park, but there is enough to get by (the digital detox was actually quite nice!).

Bluebell fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: The lovely woodland environment. The friendly staff. Close to a few attractions. Motor museum and windermere Good facilities for motorhomes and caravans and very clean. Every time I used the shower and toilets they were being cleaned. We had a good Wi-Fi signal . Nice duck pond.

Disliked: Long walk to toilets and showers but staff said closer ones were being built which we witnessed work on .
Showers were hot but nowhere to put toiletries when using it apart from the floor.
High road humps but aware that these may be for safety as children zooming around on bikes .

Bluebell fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: This park sets the standard on how all caravan parks should be.

Its the little details that have been added that make this park such a lovely place to stay, from the details around the park to the telephone call you receive prior to arrival.

It has everything! Even down to a mini gym, sauna and spa pool.

Yes, its slightly more expensive than other parks, but you are 100% getting what you pay for.

Local attractions

A converted mill on the banks of the Leven houses the Lakeland Motor Museum (five minutes’ drive), with a vast collection of vintage vehicles – from bicycles and scooters to motorcars, plus the Campbell Bluebird Exhibition, featuring several vehicles used by Donald Campbell during his speed-record breaking attempts. The kids might enjoy meeting Peter Rabbit, Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-Tail and other beloved characters at the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, in Bowness-on-Windermere (25 minutes). Here, they can also learn about the author and her conservation efforts, while across Windermere Lake is National Trust - Hill Top (25 minutes), the farmhouse she bought in 1905. National Trust - Sizergh (25 minutes) is a medieval property that’s been home to the same family for 800 years. During this time, they have accumulated a remarkable collection of portraits and decorative art objects. Stroll through the extensive grounds looking for butterflies and hawfinches.
