  • Luxury North Yorkshire glamping pods a mile from the centre of Thirsk
  • Just outside North York Moors; Fountains Abbey 25 minutes' drive
  • Private hot tub for each pod, plus kitchen and ensuite bathroom
A handy location just outside Thirsk and close to the North York Moors National Park would be the main selling point for most sites, but at Mowbray Glamping they've gone and added something that trumps even that excellent setting: each of the glamping pods here has its own private hot tub. That lovely touch gives you a hint as to the luxury that lies inside these cosy and characterful pods. Each one has been designed to the highest standards, with underfloor heating, a Smart TV, wifi and an in-built Bluetooth speaker system as well as an ensuite bathroom (with a powerful shower) and kitchen area with induction hob, fridge and microwave. Each pod has its own private outdoor space as well, with patio furniture as well as that fabulous hot tub (with a heat pump and powerful jets). Whether you're sitting at the table or soaking in the water, it's a lovely space for a glass of something while you take in the rural surroundings. The surrounding area certainly feels rural, with lots of lovely places nearby to go for walks (either gentle strolls or more challenging hikes) and bike rides. The site is, however, less than a mile away from the centre of Thirsk – a buzzy town that’s got plenty of places to eat and drink, as well as a racecourse and attractions linked to local boy James Herriot. Stately homes, ancient abbeys, golf courses and family attractions are all easily reached from here, as are days out in the likes of York or Harrogate.

Gloucester camping pod (hot tub)

Liked: We appreciated the warm welcome from Lucie - and the font of insights, local knowledge & advice which was so helpfully given.
We stayed in Pod 3 which was exceptionally well-equipped with anything & everything needed for a comfortable stay. There were lots of extras & homely touches! The Christmas decorations were appreciated. This site is managed with thoughtfulness and care. There is real attention given to detail in enhancing & personalising the customer experience.
Our Pod was spacious, immaculately clean & high-spec with TV/Netflix & a fabulous hot-tub, perfect for cosy, winter, nights-in with the teenagers!
The site is perfectly situated for days out in either the North York Moors or Yorkshire Dales.
We also enjoyed the restaurants & cafes of Thirsk and our visit to the James Herriot Museum in the heart of the town! We would definitely make a return trip.

Berkshire camping pod (four person, hot tub)

Liked: This is our 2nd time staying at Mowbray Glamping pods. Lucie and Paul are fantastic hosts. We staying in Pod 1. The Pod was spotlessly clean. The hot tub outside was pre heated and like the pod was spotlessly clean.
Old Oak Tree pub is a 10 min walk from the pods and food and drink is fantastic.

Disliked: Lucie told us that we were the first to try out the new robes that they provide. This was very welcoming for a hot tub in October. If I had to have a negative I would say that the Bathrobes would be better as towelling bath robes and im a XXL and i don't fit very well into a L.

Berkshire camping pod (four person, hot tub)

Liked: The pods are in a great location, only a short walk into Thirsk. We stayed in the Berkshire which was amazing, well equipped with everything you need. Lucie & Paul are so lovely & friendly we will definitely return.

Disliked: Maybe could do with some covering on the fence around the hot tub area as we could see into next door,
Not a massive issue but some people might want it a bit more private.

Tamworth camping pod (hot tub)

Liked: Immaculate and stunning pods, everything to the highest quality, well laid out, decorated, the space inside was brilliant with the set up, we had plenty of room as 2 adults and 2 older children, the hot tub was top of the range and it was lovely and private having your own garden. Lucie and Paul are lovely, they give all information you could need of the local area things to do, they work so hard and keep everything running perfectly and always there if you need anything. I would highly recommend anyone wanting to stay there. It's walking distance to Thirsk which has plenty of bars, restaurants, shops anything you need, and ideal for exploring the wider areas. We'll definitely be back, thank you for letting us stay.

Liked: Friendly welcome, well equipped pod and excellent hot tub. The owners are really helpful and nothing is too much hassle. Would definitely recommend Mowbray Glamping for a family holiday. Close to Lightwater Valley, Flamingo Land and Monk Park Farm for some great days out with the kids

Disliked: Unthoughtful neighbour playing extremely loud rave music after midnight

Tamworth camping pod (hot tub)

Liked: Lovely pods in great surroundings.
Everything really clean and well maintained.
Kids loved having the horses at the bottom of the garden.
Hot tub was great, the outside area was lovely and clean.

Disliked: Nothing at all to complain about.
Only thing that could have improved the accommodation would be some coat hooks and a bit of a bigger bin, and that's just being picky 😅

Local attractions

This lovely location in between the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Park is an excellent one for walks galore, whether you fancy a long hilly hike or more of a leisurely stroll (perhaps with a country pub involved). Local attractions like Thirsk Hall Sculpture Garden (three minutes' drive) or the atmospheric ruins of Fountains Abbey and Rievaulx Abbey (both 25 minutes) are good choices for an easy amble. Urban wanders are attractive options around here too – either around the Shambles, the minster and the Jorvik Viking Centre in York (40 minutes) or exploring the historic streets of Harrogate (also 40 minutes) before a sweet treat at Betty’s Tea Rooms. Closer to home, The World of James Herriot (five minutes) is a nice tribute to the much-loved Yorkshire vet. For family days out, learn about the area’s role in World War II at Eden Camp Modern History Museum (45 minutes), or hit the rides of Lightwater Valley Family Adventure Park (25 minutes) and Flamingo Land Resort (45 minutes), the latter also with exotic animals to meet.
