Pitchup.com recommends eco breaks with David Bellamy

Jun 28 2010 Posted by Lewis Shields

Consumers seeking an eco-friendly break in the great outdoors can now choose holiday parks graded by the David Bellamy Conservation Awards scheme, thanks to new search filters from Pitchup.com.

The David Bellamy Conservation Awards scheme is one of the largest and longest-running green tourism awards in the UK, and honours sites that respect their local environment and limit their use of energy, water and other resources.

Rufus Bellamy, Manager, David Bellamy Conservation Awards, says “The awards are given to those who show their ‘green’ side by managing their land in the interests of wildlife, recycling as much as possible and also supporting their local communities. This search function allows caravan and camping enthusiasts to choose responsible parks which have a positive influence on their surroundings.”

620 parks won David Bellamy Awards last year and by selecting these filters on Pitchup.com visitors can now see which sites were presented with Gold, Silver or Bronze awards along with visitor reviews, photos and ratings.

Pitchup.com now shares with you some favourite sites which were awarded David Bellamy Conservation awards:

Sleningford Watermill  in Ripon, North Yorkshire, is a Gold Award winner. The site is situated in beautiful rural surroundings where bird and bat boxes have been introduced, along with a butterfly garden and a ‘Bug Hotel’, to encourage local wildlife. The site offers a number of active outdoor pursuits close by, including golf, fishing and canoeing.

Fforest Fields Caravan & Camping Park  in Builth Wells, Wales, is a Gold Award winner.  The site has two lakes, one of which is dedicated to fishermen who will enjoy catching their supper. The other lake is available for canoeing, sailing and swimming.  The surrounding hills are ideal for those looking for adventure, with mountain biking and paragliding available as well as a number of excellent hill walking and rambling trails.

Old Oaks Touring Park, located in Glastonbury, has been honoured with a Gold Award.  This adult-only site is surrounded by a range of wildlife and is great for those seeking a peaceful trip away.  Old Oaks Touring Park plants an extensive number of native trees, shrubs and hedging to help to create a peaceful, green sanctuary for people and wildlife including foxes, badges and birds.  The park has a Victorian style reed bed to filter waste water from the amenity block in a natural, chemical free way which provides an excellent habitat for wildlife.

Sundrum Castle Holiday Park  is a Gold Award-winning site which has a number of entertainment and leisure facilities for the whole family. Situated in Ayr, Scotland, the site has its own swimming pool, amusements and mini golf course.  Sundrum Castle Holiday Park prides itself on its environmental policies and top class recycling programme. There are a number of trails within and close to the site which offer the opportunity to view birds and deer. It is also close to 30 castles and miles of sandy beaches for visitors who wish to explore the historic Scottish coastline.
