  • Kawuneeche Visitor Center and Headwaters Marina five minutes’ drive
  • Bar, restaurant and picnic areas; outdoor swimming pool and hot tub
You don’t have to be an outdoor explorer to soak up the spectacular views at Grand Lake Lodge – they are right there in front of you. At five minutes’ drive from Grand Lake in Colorado, you have stunning vistas of the Rocky Mountain Wilderness from the cozy fireside seating on the Deer Deck, and you also look over the mountain scenery from the outdoor pool and hot tub. Accommodation is in one-bed tents, all set up and ready for your arrival with a large bed (linen supplied), high ceilings, birchwood flooring and plenty of storage space. Power for USB charging stations, wifi, electrical outlets and LED lighting is provided by solar panels; there is no heating or air conditioning, so guests should be prepared for cold nights and mornings in fall. Shared restrooms and showers are available as well. The Lodge Bar is well stocked with wine, while mixologists can soon whip up a cocktail for connoisseurs, and the Huntington House Tavern can handle all kinds of post-hike appetites. The manicured grounds are dotted with picnic areas, and there’s a playground for hours of family fun.

Local attractions

You’re never going to be short of hiking and cycling options as Grand Lake Lodge borders the Rocky Mountain National Park. Make your first stop the Kawuneeche Visitor Center (five minutes’ drive) to pick up all the information you need for sightseeing or getting active in the park and book your Timed Entry Reservations. You can tour Grand Lake on a number of trips from Headwaters Marina (five minutes), take a sunset cruise or join the kids for a slow meander around the shoreline on a pedal boat. When something more hardcore is needed, organize whitewater rafting adventures along the upper Colorado River from Kremmling (45 minutes). If you’d rather stay firmly on dry land, go horseback riding (15 minutes) in the national park or play golf on a course surrounded by mountains. See if you can spot bald eagles around Shadow Mountain Reservoir (10 minutes), or for a complete change of pace, head into Grand Lake (five minutes) for a spot of shopping and dining on the downtown boardwalk.
