Outdoor enthusiasts, gather round – Barn Door Hostel and Campground is in prime position for all your days of alfresco adventures in rural New Hampshire.
This campground is set on nine acres of meadow at the base of Stinson Mountain on the edge of White Mountain National Forest – a location that puts you within easy reach of a huge network of hiking and bike trails, cross-country skiing, fishing, boating and swimming in swimming holes or under waterfalls.
Rumney Rocks Climbing Area – known as one of the country’s top spots for sports climbing, with its distinct crags and scenic autumn foliage – is about five minutes’ drive away too (as is Sole Track Brewery, where you can get a well-earned drink after your active day…) Many of the smaller crags are within walking distance, and there’s a brook on the campground where you can cool off with a dip once you get back.
Sites here are simple in style but have access to all the basic facilities including an outdoor shower, compost toilets and a drinking water supply. You’ll be allowed to light campfires or barbecues for cooking – pick up supplies at the store in Rumney, a mile away. Plymouth (15 minutes’ drive) is your nearest big town for shops and places to eat.
