- Family-friendly holiday park two kilometres from the Zeeland coast
- A 40-minute walk to sandy beaches; a 40-minute drive to Bruges
- Play area on site; free access to a local swimming pool
Soft, sandy Zeeland beaches, nature reserves and days in romantic Bruges, anyone? If that sounds like a sweet arrangement, sidle over to EuroParcs Bad MeerSee, just two kilometres from the Zeeland coast and 40 minutes’ drive from Bruges’ cobbles, canals and medieval architecture. In fact, two of those splendid aforementioned sandy beaches are just 40 minutes’ walk away from this family-friendly holiday park.
Based in the cosy village of Nieuwvliet, EuroParcs Bad MeerSee is surrounded by Zeeuws-Vlaanderen’s nature reserves. This is a peaceful type of holiday park, where your days might consist of sampling Burgundian dishes at restaurants within walking distance of the site and taking in the sea air.
It'll take you about 25 minutes to walk to the nearby nature reserve, Verdronken Zwarte Polder. Around since 1623 and flooded in 1802, the reserve has been nicknamed the ‘drowned black polder’ ever since due to its dunes, beach and low vegetation. You’re likely to see lots of birds flitting around while you explore the cycling and hiking paths.
The site’s facilities include a play area and shower and toilet facilities, and guests are very welcome to use the additional facilities at EuroParcs Schoneveld, 15 minutes’ drive away, where there’s bicycle hire and a swimming pool. You’ll be checking into the reception here, so you’ll be familiar with the setting.

Local attractions
Scenic towns and cities? Oh, go on then… the Burgundian Sluis (10 minutes’ drive) has the only Belfry in the Netherlands and an ultra-scenic canal. Across the border is Bruges (40 minutes’ drive), where climbing the bell tower will get you views over the medieval roofs and canals. As for a lively Belgian seaside resort, well, Knokke-Heist (25 minutes) is also within reach.
Birdwatching? If that’s your thing and you’ve already explored the local nature reserve, there’s another bird haven across the Belgian border. The Zwin (25 minutes) is a coastal lagoon with dunes, salt pans and swamps, which are naturally a favourite for birds migrating from south to north (or vice versa).
Those with extra time on their hands might be pleased to find that Ghent (an hour) is a prime spot for a day trip. It has medieval architecture, a river harbour with guildhalls, a castle and a lively city centre.
