  • Peaceful site on a working farm in a forest-filled nature reserve
  • A 10-minute drive from Callantsoog and its North Sea beach
  • Wifi and fishing; walking and cycling paths accessible from the park
Despite the reference to exotic fruit in its name, Camping 't Ananas isn’t in the tropics – rather, it’s set in an area known in local lore as the Pineapple Forest, on a working farm with a traditional Dutch windmill a 10-minute drive from the seaside town of Callantsoog and its North Sea beach. Cyclists, rejoice: this is a prime place for getting stuck into perhaps the Netherlands’ favourite pastime. As well as oodles of bike trails, there are also plenty of walking paths around the farm and beyond, including a poetry-themed route where roamers can stop and read the rhymes written down along the way. If you’re fonder of fishing than the lyrical arts, a couple of lakes – Eerste Water and Tweede Water – are a 10-minute drive away; angle out in the fresh air here or on the Noord-Hollands canal closer by (just don’t forget your permit). Afterwards, head back to the site and laze on the sheltered lawn with a view of the trees (as well as the goats, pigs, horses and peacocks that roam the farm…). After some eats? Get a tasty soft ice cream at the site or eat out at the restaurants in Schagerbrug (half an hour's walk), Schagen (10 minutes' drive) or Callantsoog (10 minutes' drive). You could also whip up a meal made with ingredients from the West Frisian market in Schagen (held on Thursdays), 15 minutes away, and the cheese market in Alkmaar (Fridays), 25 minutes.

What customers say

This working farm campsite offers a peaceful rural escape with spacious sites and beautiful natural surroundings, often called idyllic. Guests praise the friendly owners, clean but dated facilities, and farm animals that kids love. Beach and cycling route proximity are highlights. Some note occasional farm noise, flies, and lack of toilet paper/bins. Electricity prices were higher than expected for some.

Liked A great place to experience farm living with cute chickens, peacocks, goat and even an lovely old farm dog roaming. There was the cow shed and horses. On site you could even take advantage of free canoe use and visit to the windmill. Our pitch was near the amenities showers, toilets, and washing - all of which were clean. The owners were friendly.

Liked Vriendelijkheid

Disliked Over de N9 komt véél luidruchtig verkeer langs.
We stonde naast de Molen.

Recommend to friends Visit again

Local attractions

If you’re travelling with the kids, Amusement Park De Goudvis (around a five-minute drive) is your secret weapon: this complex has a trio of indoor play areas, as well as an outdoor playground with a massive trampoline, bouncy castle and climbing frame, to keep the sprogs amused. Nippers also tend to be fond of Sint Maartensvlotbrug’s Campanula subtropical swimming pool – which also has a tennis court for the grownups – a five-minute drive away. There’s a sauna here too for a steaming session after a wander around natural reserves like the bird-filled Zwanenwater just outside Callantsoog. Another attraction for the whole family to visit is BroekerVeiling (25 minutes), a museum that’s also the world’s last sail-through auction. Jump on a boat here and tour the remains of the thousands of islands that used to exist here before having a gander at an exhibition explaining the area’s history. Fort Kijkduin in Den Helder (30 minutes) is another old-timey place worth travelling towards. Saunter around this Napoleonic building and its museum, making sure to swing by aquarium hidden underneath the subterranean tunnels if you fancy checking out some maritime critters.
