Venturing to the Veluwe? You’re in luck: you can easily explore the woodland, heaths, streams and hills of this national park in Gelderland from a modern base at Resort De Wije Werelt about a 10-minute drive from the reserve and in a pretty forested setting… The area’s also famed for its sand drifts – it’s home to some of the biggest in Europe – with one accessible 20 minutes' walk from the park. Well-known museums, historic towns and foodie options are dotted around the region as well and are easy to access by car or on one of the site’s rental bikes. You won’t necessarily need to leave the park for eats and entertainment though: food and drink’s sorted thanks to the à la carte restaurant, diner and snack bar, and amenities like playgrounds, table tennis, an outdoor swimming pool and go-kart hire will keep the kids busy. If you’ve got mini members in your travel crew, family-friendly places of note are also nearby. You could head to Burgers' Zoo (15 minutes’ drive away) to amble through this 45-hectare space in Arnhem with habitats for animals ranging from pythons to monkeys or whizz through the sky on some of the 60 rides at the Julianatoren Apeldoorn amusement park for under-12s (30 minutes away). Counter the excitement with cultural activities too by trying the Kröller-Müller Museum 10 minutes’ drive away inside the Veluwe national park for a collection of art spanning the 19th and 20th centuries or get an immersive look at local history in the old houses, farms and factories at the Netherlands Open Air Museum (25 minutes).

Liked: Toller Campingplatz. Es gibt wirklich alles was man braucht. Wasser, Strom, etc. direkt am Zelt. Die Sanitäranlagen waren gut und sauber. Tolle Spielmöglichkeiten für Kinder, viele Spielplätze, auch ein Indoor-Spielplatz, stehen den Kindern zur Verfügung. Eltern können direkt nebenan essen, trinken, etc. Auch Fahrräder zu leihen war einfach möglich.

Disliked: There was some confusion during my late check-in which meant I almost did not get access to my pitch before the 10pm deadline, and it was quite stressful.

Liked: Het sanitair was picco bello in orde.
Onze dochter van 13 vond de animatie top.
Zelfs de speeltuinen (binnen en buiten) vond ze leuk.
Het was makkelijk met het winkeltje op de camping om 's morgens verse broodjes te halen.
Het ontvangst was hartelijk.
De medewerkers waren allemaal vriendelijk.
De omgeving is heel aangenaam.
Veel te doen. Fietsen, wandelen, een klimbos en andere.

Liked: Excellent facilities, very clean toilet and shower facilities, plenty for young and older children to do, beautifully peaceful location, great pitches, some with fantastic private bathrooms on the pitch- very clean , spacious and heated. Very good restaurant and bar area with great outdoor seating area and good food and very friendly and helpful staff made you feel very welcome. Overall excellent location for exploring the beautiful and interesting Arnhem area.

Disliked: Maybe the only thing to make it even better would be a better hard standing area for the caravan or campervan to sit on just to avoid paddling as much sand into the van.

FHU grass campsite

Liked: Very good customer services, made very welcome on arrival at reception. Very clean showers, toilets & washing up area. We had a pitch with water & EHU. Shop, restaurant & cafe on site. Good cycle routes direct from campsite to the local village of Otterlo which had a Spar & quite a few restaurants & cafes. Cycling routes were excellent in the area & we cycled to the forest & also into Arnhem. Visited in school term time so very quiet, but seemed as though children would enjoy it there with an outdoor pool & several play areas.

Disliked: Nothing.

Local attractions

As well as family-friendly and cultural things to do, Gelderland has offbeat options as well: think the Dutch Poultry Museum (20 minutes’ drive), the De Passiflorahoeve butterfly garden (15 minutes) and a tourist-centred asparagus farm (45 minutes). If you’d rather choose more standard ways to while away the time, a winery is 10 minutes’ drive away and Recreation Zeumeren is within 25 for sandy lakeside beaches and sunbathing areas as well as miniature golf, water skiing, wakeboarding, paddleboarding and canoeing. For days out without getting wet, the site’s also well placed: it’s under 40 minutes’ drive from the cities and towns of Arnhem, Apeldoorn, Ede and Nijmegen if you fancy mornings and afternoons full of art galleries, old architecture and top eats.

Bookings cannot be amended within 28 day(s) of arrival.

Admission

All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leashes and supervised at all times.
The campground/park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Breed-specific legislation (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

General

Bookings are nominative and non-transferable.
Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.
In the event of a complaint, please speak to reception immediately. Complaints which are not brought to the management's attention during your stay cannot be dealt with once you have left the site.
Radio, music and TV players must be kept at a low volume. Car doors and trunks must be closed quietly.
The management reserves the right to deny access or terminate the stay of those guests whose behavior is deemed unsuitable. No refunds will be offered.

Hired accommodation

Hired accommodation: €100.00 ($105.47) damage/cleanliness/bracelet deposit is required on arrival and will be refunded on departure after inspection of your unit should no damage/losses be found.

Reception

Reception is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. between 01/01 and 12/31.
Reception is unmanned after 5 p.m.. Please inform the park while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time so that the team can provide information about your unit/site.
