A set of utterly stunning mountains rises up from Camping Faè in the Italian province of Trentino: these spectacular peaks are the Brenta Dolomites, making up a landscape so dazzlingly striking it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site. (And if you're a Tolkien fan? You'll easily be able to pretend these mountains belong to Middle Earth.) The mountains are a protected area for their wildlife, including hilly inhabitants like bears, alpine ibex, marmots and golden eagles, and are a topping ski destination too, with the ski resorts of Madonna di Campiglio and Pinzolo on their west side. Hiking, climbing and paragliding are also popular picks around here. Camping Faè is a family-run site, shaded by trees and with mountain views (of course) and modern facilities. It has a bar and a lounge to collapse into after a long day hiking the mountains; two barbecue areas, a playground, a ping pong table and a football table are also on hand, along with a small supermarket stocked with main groceries, freshly baked bread and some local products. The team is multilingual. Amenities include also three heated toilet and shower blocks with free hot running water and hairdryers, and a laundry room with coin-operated washing machines, a tumble dryer and an ironing board.

Local attractions

The UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Brenta Dolomites is rightly popular with holidaymakers and outdoorsy fans, for their spectacular landscapes, mountain settings and the opportunities for rock climbing, hiking and paragliding. More gently, there are also walking trails for ambles, as well as some splendid via ferrata climbing/hiking routes for the more experienced. More outdoorsy stuff is on the eastern side of the Brenta Dolomites at the Altopiano della Paganella, the district around the Paganella mountain that overlooks Trento and the Valle dell´Adige. This is also the region that's home to the tourist town of Molveno, with lakeside beach and indoor ice rink. The village and ski resort of Madonna di Campiglio is a short drive from the site.

Liked: The camp site had modern, clean bathrooms, freezer for campers to use, laundry area with hand washing sinks a free spinner and hanging space, clean dishwashing area. The website says there’s a shop but there isn’t but you can order bread and pastries g go or breakfast get a coffee or an ice cream. Lovely clean site in beautiful surroundings

Disliked: The advertisement of a shop and there wasn’t one and the locked gates between 1pm and 3pm so cars can’t move s as round
