  • Stylish, well-equipped gypsy caravan on a farm in the Tuscan hills
  • Suvereto five minutes’ drive; 20 minutes to the Tuscany coast
  • On-site shop selling homemade and homegrown produce
Settle down for a meal on your veranda at Agriturismo Poggio Diavolino and you may well find it difficult to decide which is more delicious: the view over the Tuscan hills or the spread of food laid out in front of you… This splendidly secluded glamping site is part of a certified organic farm, and it's a real classic Tuscany location, looking out over green hills dotted with olive trees. A couple of kilometres away is the nearest pretty traditional village, Suvereto, which you can reach with a five-minute drive or a half-hour walk along a narrow country lane. And despite this postcard-like hilly backdrop, this site is also handily close to the coast – you can reach the sandy beaches of the Parco Costiero di Rimigliano coastal reserve with about 20 minutes’ drive. To sweeten the deal even further, accommodation is in a pretty wooden gypsy caravan built entirely by hand with great attention to detail. Sleeping up to three guests, the caravan comes with a comfortable double bed and a sofa bed, a fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom. Elegant decorative touches include original watercolours, oil paintings and graphics inspired by animals. There’s also air conditioning (which doubles up as heating in winter) and a large veranda for your alfresco dinners. And a word about those dinners… If you want top ingredients for your meals, skip the supermarket and head instead to the on-site shop, where you can purchase the farm’s homegrown and homemade products (including extra virgin olive oil, sourdough bread, cured meats, pasta and vegetables).

Local attractions

Sounds like you could be in for some lovely meals while you're here, so you’re going to need to work up an appetite… perhaps with a walk around Parco Naturale di Montioni (25 minutes’ drive) or through the steaming landscapes of Geothermal Natural Park Biancane (35 minutes). If you like to mix a bit of history in with your walks, try Parco Archeominerario di San Silvestro (15 minutes), where you hike up Rocca San Silvestro and/or ride a small train into an old mine to learn how the industry used to work. Baratti and Populonia Archaeological Park (25 minutes), is another great place to explore, with Etruscan remnants looking out over the sea. Child-friendly outings nearby include Cavallino Matto theme park (25 minutes) and Acqua Village Follonica (half an hour), which has lots of excellent waterslides to try out. If you’ve not got kids with you, perhaps you'd prefer to seek out some of the local wineries instead…
