- Glampsite on an Apulia wine estate 15 minutes’ drive from Manduria
- San Pietro in Bevagna beaches 10 minutes’ drive; Ostuni an hour
- Vineyard tours, cookery classes and yoga sessions available on site
Now here’s a fine place to lay your head: an organic wine estate 15 minutes’ drive from Manduria in Apulia. Accommodation at historic Masseria Cuturi is in bell tents sleeping up to three guests and set under the cooling shade of a forest of oaks and holm oaks with 13th-century origins.
Inside, each tent is tastefully furnished with soft tones and eco-sustainable materials, from the bed linen to the locally produced storage baskets and woven rugs. A few steps away is a shared swimming pool for cooling dips in the water, and a deck for soaking up the sun. Wherever you choose to wander around the property, there are peaceful views over neatly planted rows of vines.
Vineyard tours, cookery classes and yoga sessions are some of the activities you can book at the site, and if you hit the right time of year, you’re welcome to help with the olive harvest too. Equally well, you may prefer to snooze in your tent with a good book, watch millions of stars appear on clear nights, or just relax and listen to the songs of cicadas.
The on-site restaurant will keep you fed and watered from morning until night, and there’s a good choice of eateries in Manduria as well.

Local attractions
The handsome and storied town of Manduria (15 minutes’ drive) is known for the remains of an ancient Messapian settlement in the Parco Archeologico delle Mura Messapiche (20 minutes), and equally renowned for its primitivo wines. Learn more about local vine cultivation at the Museo della Civilta del Primitivo, and then have a wander around the pedestrianised Centro Storico.
Days on the beach may beckon instead; the golden sands and calm, shallow waters at San Pietro in Bevagna (10 minutes) are safe for families with young kids, while popular Punta Prosciutto (15 minutes) is backed by bars and cafés. The lagoon at Porto Cesareo (20 minutes) is edged with small coves and beaches good for rockpooling.
The baroque architecture of Lecce is about an hour’s drive away, as are the vast fortress, Roman remains and Adriatic beaches of Brindisi. In the ‘white city’ of Ostuni (also an hour), you can explore whitewashed cobbled lanes leading up to its citadel and ornate late-Gothic cathedral.
