  • Comfortable and modern holiday park on the upper Adriatic coast
  • Boat rentals and tours on site, along with a restaurant with sea views
  • Beach bar and pool bar until late in the evening; 18-hole golf course
A beach bar, pool bar and restaurant facing the sea? Mamma mia. Tenuta Primero Grado Family Collection is a modern and comfy park on the upper Adriatic coast, run by the Club del Sole group, and surrounded by the type of Med scenery that sensible sorts can only call stunning. Settle down to relax on the beach/by the pool here or get ready to get active: windsurfing, kitesurfing, golf and volleyball are among the many leisure pursuits around, and the entertainment team organises plenty more like aqua gym to keep all ages fit. Camping Tenuta Primero's swimming complex is also really rather splendid, as the main pool has a whirlpool and there are two extra pools with shallow water suitable for the kids. And the pool is where one of the site bars is, open from early morning until late evening, serving snacks, hot and cold drinks, ice cream and breakfasts. (The other on-site bar has all the same, but is on the beach.) Proper Italian cuisine can be had in the Terrazza Mare restaurant-pizzeria, which is just in front of the sea and serves specialities and takeaways from the local area or in the Al Casone restaurant, specialising in fish and built in the style of the local lagoon huts. And there's more: the Baretto, in the centre of the sports area, has games, shows, cabaret and live music every night – and at the Afen bar disco, the night continues on the dance floor. The site also has an 18-hole golf course and a marina with over 200 berths, where boat rentals and boat tours are available.

Local attractions

Get yourself over to Grado pronto after arriving at Tenuta Primero Grado Family Collection: this comely harbour is known as the sunny or golden island and has a modern lido to make a change from days on the beach. Both Venice and Trieste are only a few kilometres away for city day trips. Sporty sorts will find lots to keep them active around these parts: there's a golf club just over the road, and you can sign up for windsurfing, rafting and other watersports in Grado. If you just wanted to stretch your legs a bit, the Valle Cavanata nature reserve, a kilometre away, is a lovely place for a stroll. More into pootling around historic sites? This area's packed with places to visit – a wander around Grado might take in the Basilica della Corte and Casa del Musica, followed by a boat trip to the pretty island of Barbana. Aquileia and Monfalcone (both 15 minutes by car) are other good places to seek out fine architecture from across the ages; if your tiddlers (or indeed yourselves) are into dinosaurs, take the half-hour trip to the Villaggio del Pescatore palaeontology site instead.
