- Well-equipped family site two kilometres from Saint-Galmier
- A half-hour drive to Gorges de la Loire; an hour and 15 mins to Lyon
- Heated pool and paddling pool, sports facilities and summer activities
The Rhône-Alpes is a fabulously varied area, with plenty of mountains, lakes, natural parks, wine routes and family attractions to choose from. And you’ll be right in the thick of it when you stay at Camping Le Val de Coise, a relaxed family site a couple of kilometres from the town of Saint-Galmier.
There are heaps of options around here for days out, whether you’re into hiking your way around the natural landscapes or eating your way through the markets and restaurants. That said, there are also lots of things to keep you busy right there on site, making this a particularly fine site for families with differing tastes.
A highlight for many is likely to be the pool area, which has a main 72 m² pool along with a paddling pool for the smaller swimmers – both are heated and covered by a retractable roof for comfortable dips in all weathers. Beyond that, the site also has more sporting options in the form of ping pong tables, a pétanque court and a multisports court for games of football and volleyball. Sports tournaments are often organised by site staff in the summer so you can join in even if the rest of your group doesn’t fancy it.
Still need more things to keep the kids busy? There’s a playground and bouncy castle, and through the summer a team of professionally trained entertainment staff run all sorts of fun activities for younger guests. Don’t feel left out though – activities for all ages feature too, from aquagym classes and archery sessions by day through to family-oriented theme nights and karaoke sessions in the evening.

Local attractions
Heading out for a hike or a bike trip? You’ll have plenty of choice for places to go, with the Livradois-Forez Regional Natural Park on one side, the Pilat Regional Natural Park on the other and the Gorges de la Loire about half an hour’s drive away too.
If you’d rather theme your outings around food and drink, the wine routes around places like Juliénas and Chénas (an hour and a half’s drive) are well worth exploring, and Lyon (an hour and 15 minutes) allegedly has more restaurants per head than any other French city, and the excellent Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse market. Work up an appetite with a stroll through the old town, a visit to the Fine Arts Museum or a tour of the Gallo-Roman sites.
Family days out? Take a step into the past among the turrets of Château de Bouthéon (15 minutes), meet big cats and primates at Saint Martin la Plaine Zoo (40 minutes) or see birds of prey in flight at Parc de Courzieu (40 minutes).
