  • Family-friendly Rhône-Alpes site on the banks of the Drôme River
  • Die 10 minutes’ walk; horse riding and paragliding five minutes’ drive
  • Shaded grounds and a snack bar; free access to a pool with waterslides
When you’re after adventure breaks with the kids, booking a stay at Camping Le Justin will put you at the top of the class. With spectacular views of the Pays Diois hills, the site is set on a leafy property edging the River Drôme and it’s springboard to walks or mountain bike rides in the Rhône-Alpes, canoeing jaunts down the river and cooling dips in waterfalls. Facilities-wise, the place has a lot going for it too. On-site play areas, pétanque and volleyball courts will keep everyone busy, and there’s a stone beach on the banks of the Drôme. If you don’t fancy swimming in the river, head for the monitored municipal pool with a waterslide next door – it’s open May to September and free to all Camping Le Justin guests. If you don’t feel like cooking after a fun-filled day in the fresh Rhône-Alpes air, there’s an informal on-site snack bar serving family favourites like pizza, paninis and a plentiful supply of ice cream accompanied by stunning vistas of the craggy peak of Glandasse. And the basics? The shower blocks have disabled access, plenty of hot water to go round and a baby-changing area as well as washing-up sinks.

Local attractions

The Pays Diois is sporting action central; you can join guided raft trips on the River Drôme and navigate downstream in kayaks or canoes. Grab a pair of hiking boots or jump on a mountain bike to access steep valleys, plateaux and mountain trails in Vercors Regional Natural Park (10 minutes’ drive). Explore the region on horseback or see the mountains from above on paragliding expeditions (both five minutes). Inject a bit of culture into your sightseeing proceedings with a wander into historic Die (10 minutes’ walk) to discover its Gallo-Roman ramparts and the masterly paintings in the medieval cathedral. There are also plenty of shops there for stockpiling regional produce, and a food market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Out exploring by car, have a peek at the dramatic Saut de la Drôme (25 minutes’ drive), a waterfall tumbling down a rockfall of vast boulders. The whole region is known for its lavender fields; in high summer you can photograph them around Die or the pretty medieval town of Rosans (about an hour).
