  • Quiet campsite in a green setting an hour's drive from Tours
  • Bike trails, châteaux and opportunities for fishing in the local area
  • Pool complex, tennis, playground, pétanque and bar
Resort & Camping - Val de Braye is a quiet and green place to stay in a riverside location just a few minutes' walk from the centre of Bessé-sur-Braye and an hour's drive from Tours. With a pool complex that's made up of a heated outdoor pool, an indoor pool, a waterslide, a jacuzzi and a paddling pool, there's plenty of entertainment for the aquatically inclined. On top of that, away from the water, pétanque and tennis courts and a playground are available. Wander down to the banks of the river Braye that hug the edge of the campsite – it's a great spot for fishing (talk to reception to get hold of the relevant permit) or for simply taking advantage of the peace and quiet to relax, read a book or tuck into a picnic. The bar has snacks and meals during the day, while those who prefer to cook have the on-site food shop. You can also walk the short distance into the centre of Bessé-sur-Braye, where the Saturday market is not to be missed. In terms of functional facilities, the site has two shower blocks, toilets (including some which are accessible) and family bathrooms. Bathing facilities for babies are also available.

Liked Nothing

Disliked We arrived at 17:30. The receptionist informed us that the pool was open until 19:00, the restaurant was fully booked and no shops were open. He then told us that half the pitches were closed due to one of the toilet blocks being shut. We found a pitch and got ready for swimming. We arrived at the pool 18.12 with our three children. We stood in a que for 20minutes. Once we got to the front the lady at the desk was so, so rude!! She said that it was 18:32 a last time allowed in was 18:30. Yet we had been stood there for 20 minutes all in our swimming clothes. The children were so upset when we told them we were not allowed in the pool. We complained to reception and got told rules are rules. We went back to our van got changed and went to find food. Luckily there was a takeaway 15 minutes away that was open. When we were back at the site the children went on the park. When leaving the park our daughter age 6 asked for a photo in one of the glass domes. I said that was fine, when we took the photo a staff member basically said the domes are for paying customers. If we hadn’t just done a five hour drive and there was another option we would of definitely just left.

Liked Nothing

Disliked Luckily, we had only booked a one-night stay. The caravan/cabin was not clean, and I was glad we’d brought our own portable fridge, as the one provided was unusable. I mentioned this to the gentleman at reception, but nothing was done about it. We had planned to visit the on-site restaurant, but after seeing the state of the accommodation, we decided against it.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked A great campsite with an excellent selection of well maintained and large pitches offering choices from full sun to total shade.
Great facilities with well appointed toilets and showers. All toilets had seats and ample toilet paper, (which is not always the case in France).
The showers were good with ample hot water and even included a shower gel dispenser.
The hosts spoke perfect English and were incredibly polite and helpful.
The site has a bar and on site Indian restaurant providing excellent dining.
Free entry to the adjacent Municipal Pool was included.
Great cycling opportunities starting from opposite the campsite on a converted railway line.
Our thanks to all of the staff for making our 4 night stay perfect.

Disliked NOTHING.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked Clean, well maintained, delightful countryside all around, shaded, good facilities, friendly staff, bar & restaurant on site, close to town centre, free vouchers for adjacent municipal pool. Bargain for the price.

Disliked Stupid and pointless budgie-smugglers-only rule at pool, rigidly enforced by staff straight from military boot camp, with social skills to match. Limited pool opening hours (in June at least).

Liked Friendly reception; clean site and good sized pitches (choose your own); use of great pool adjacent to site; hot water in showers; cycle/walking path opposite site; great bakery in town 5 mins walk away.

Disliked Portion sizes and temperature of food in Indian restaurant on site - but we chose to eat there! Visitors to restaurant use site toilets.

Local attractions

This is château country. The nearest is Château de Courtanvaux, a few minutes’ drive away (or half an hour's walk), where kids' activities are organised during summer. You could also check out the Château de Montmirail (35 minutes' drive), a medieval castle dating from the 15th century overlooking an attractive village below. Next, take the time to visit the village of Trôo, home to cave-dwellers during the medieval period who carved their homes out of the local limestone hills (10 minutes). If you're travelling as a family, head next to the Saint Calais leisure centre (under 15 minutes), where pedalos, pétanque, miniature golf and playgrounds are all on the cards. Trips a little further afield could take you to the 24 Hours of Le Mans museum, home to 140 high-speed vehicles as well as the famed Le Mans racetrack itself (50 minutes). Alternatively, the city of Tours with its historic districts and timber-fronted houses is an hour away, while the popular Zoo de La Flèche (also an hour away) is home to more than 1,500 animals in an attractive 18-hectare park.
