  • Peaceful family-run site within easy reach of Saint-Omer
  • Two kilometres from the huge 1,200-hectare forest of Clairmarais
  • Huge private plots plus playground surrounded by big grassy area
Since taking over in June 2014, owners Julie and Nicolas have been cultivating a friendly familial vibe at Camping Le Bloemstraete, in Renescure, halfway between Hazebrouck and St Omer, and within easy reach of Lille and Calais. Set across two hectares, plots are huge, grassy and surrounded by big hedges to keep things private yet nicely neighbourly. There's a playground surrounded by a large grassy area to kick a ball around in before sitting down to lunch at one of the picnic benches; a pétanque pitch is on site too. For barbecue food shopping you can head into the centre of the village where there's a supermarket and a butcher, and then pick up your croissants, pain au chocolat and a baguette or two at the local bakery. For when you feel you've had enough of toiling over hot charcoals, try out the village's gastro restaurant or brasserie and finish off with a few vin rouge at one of the local bars. If you fancy an off-site adventure, ask Julie and Nicolas how to get to their favourite trails and nature spots and they'll give you plenty of information about where you can go from the site on hikes and bike rides around the area.

Liked A great welcome very friendly no fuss......great price for what services were there...showers,w/machine and dryers...toilets with toilet roll...sinks for washing up and also one for rinsing out a few items of clothing...
Very clean..bread delivery except on Mondays...Hairdryer..
A rest room with Wifi...(We only stayed one night so never used it)
Goats, chickens, peacock, aviary with numerous birds in ..
Very peaceful and bushes between the large plots...
One criticism the showers were ok but not great pressure...just takes abit longer...
Village is a short drive away or a walk if your feeling fit...
Well done to our hosts...a great place to stopover..within 45 mins of Calais...
Don't miss for a peaceful setting...
Thank you...

Warm welcome, great stay.

Liked Very friendly hosts with excellent communication before and during visit. We wanted a site not too far from Calais and everything was as we hoped. Generous individual pitches, spotless facilities and lots of suggestions of things to do in the area made for an enjoyable weekend.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked What a lovely site! We booked as a stopover before travelling home so didn’t have a chance to explore the area, but we’d certainly return. The facilities were clean and the pitches were HUGE! But what really made this place were the couple who own/run it - so friendly and welcoming and obviously really care about what they do. I don’t think we’ve ever had such a warm and genuine welcome. We were there on a Friday and had freshly cooked pizzas delivered to the pitch! They also do a morning bread/pastry delivery. We really enjoyed our short stay and it was a great place to end our holiday, only an hour from the Eurotunnel terminal.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Private pitches with hedges between, easy access to water tap and drinking water as this was on the pitch itself. Toilets and shared sink areas for dishes were clean. Very friendly family run campsite and seemed to give lots of information if you were staying for long. Some animals, basketball court area for children. Wifi available close to house but good connection to 5g around the site.

Local attractions

The huge 1,200-hectare forest of Clairmarais lies less than two kilometres away from Camping Le Bloemstraete, for scenic hikes and bike rides among its old oak trees while you keep a beady eye out for owls and grey herons. You can also trek around a trail that winds past the pond of Harchelles (built by monks) to the pilgrimage site of the Clairmarais grotto, which lies among the woodland. Then, climb aboard a bacôve (flat-bottomed marsh boat through the maze of waterways that make up the UNESCO-listed Audomarois marsh, set around the historic cultural centre of Saint-Omer. Also around this area is the Platier d'Oye nature reserve, the first feeding area for migrants birds en route to their winter homes and so an excellent spot for birdwatchers. Other good sightseeing options in the area include the World War II bunker complex of La Coupole, and the historic town of Cassel with fab historical spots such as an 18th-century hilltop wooden windmill, the cobblestoned Grand'Place, a Flemish Gothic-style church, a museum and lots of photogenic 16th-century Flemish buildings.
