  • Peaceful site in the grounds of a working farm 3km from Bailleul
  • 20 minutes' drive from Ypres and In Flanders Fields Museum
  • Farm shop on site with an wide range of homegrown and local produce
If you want a full flavour of French cuisine (oui), you'll find it here in French Flanders. The shop at Camping de la Ferme des Saules, in the grounds of a working farm in the Flanders mountains, is piled with all sorts of fruit and veg fresh from the fields for you to sample, as well as a range of tiptop produce from other local suppliers including fresh meat, pâtés, cheese, eggs, sweets and homemade Flemish waffles. Pick up some local fruit juices and beers to wash it all down and you’ve got everything you need for quite the French feast. Ferme des Saules is a family-friendly site, half a kilometre from the Belgian border and 20 minutes' drive from Ypres. Guests are welcome to wander the farm during opening hours to meet the chickens, goats and pony, or you could work your appetite up further with a pre-dinner game of pétanque while the kids bounce around the playground or trampoline. Spacious grass pitches are within easy reach of a smart modern toilet block that houses toilets, showers, a kids’ bathroom and an accessible bathroom. There’s also free wifi access around the site. Ferme des Saules is a few kilometres from Bailleul for yet more foodie options at its restaurants, bistros, bars and speciality shops: you can reach town within a five-minute drive, a 15-minute cycle or a 45-minute walk, depending on how many calories you need to work off...

Power optional grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Great location for visiting the local area which is beautiful. Lovely cycling from the doorstep into the surrounding French region and into West Flanders. Facilities were great and well maintained. The staff were really approachable and helpful. Huge range of food and drink in the shop - you could easily get away without visiting the supermarket and fresh baked goods can be ordered for the following day. Great eating out options on the doorstep.

Prachtige staanplaatsen, mooie en schone faciliteiten zoals toiletten.

Power optional grass and earth RV campsite

Liked A great welcome at reception and shown a number of available pitches. The on-site shop attached has a great selection of fresh fruit, vegetables, cheeses, etc.
We were given a pitch right next to the chicken coup and it was fun watching them scurry around all day.
The facilities were convenient and spotlessly clean. There were some ‘semi-open’ urinals which is new to us Brits but no big deal.
The local town has some lovely shops and bars but it would be quite a trek for us oldies so we drove in.
The campground was full while we were there. Hopefully this is always the case but I suspect more because the Tour de France was passing the next day! Still, the facilities were not overstretched.
Please don’t be put off by the low cost - this is one of the best campgrounds we have stayed at and will return.

Excellent all round . Many thanks…

Power optional grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Distance from Dunkirk ferry port (approx 45 mins)
Ease & efficiency of check in.
Tour of camp site on a golf buggy for you to pick your own pitch that suits your needs.
Facilities are excellent......
All pitches have fresh water on the pitch that I saw
Shower block / Toilets / Wash up area /Kitchen Dining area /Laundry Room / Site Shop / French Boules pitches x2 / Kids play area
All pitches appeared to be flat & well maintained. Some were enclosed by bushes for extra privacy.
A mixture of caravans, motorhomes, trailer tents & tents scattered around the main camping areas. Some static caravans & seasonal caravans on site also.
Free WiFi which was very good throughout our stay.
Very friendly owners & staff on site.
Location is perfect for touring France & Belgium.
Local town is approx 40 mins walk but worth the effort. Bruges approx an hours drive away. Ypres approx 30 mins drive away.
Perfect site for a stopover or a few days to a few weeks. We stayed 10 days & it didn't disappoint.
A special mention to the sites resident dog....what a character & very very friendly to all guests.
Don't hesitate...just book it....you'll love it.

Disliked Slight gripe but it didn't spoil our holiday & it depends upon the type of campers that you are on site with at the time.......the top small toilets / Wash up area away from the main buildings were cleaned once that we noticed during our stay. But it doesn't help when other campers leave the toilets & sink areas in a state that can only be described as a sess pit. Beggars belief how some folk must live.
Moto cross race one Saturday afternoon that we could see from the site which was noisy & annoying through the day.
Local festival at weekend playing loud music till 0250hrs both nights, again annoying but didn't spoil our stay & I guess they're not on every weekend?

Very well kept and friendly site in a beautiful location.

Local attractions

At Bailleul, start in the flower-filled Grand’Place, dominated by the 62-metre belfry tower of the town hall, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Climb to the top for spectacular views towards the mountains and to get up close to the 35-bell carillon. Around the corner from the square is the Museum of Benoit-De-Puydt, a converted private house where you can learn a bit about the town’s role during the war and visit the exhibition of Flemish art. Also worth a visit is the Country Life Museum in Steenwerck, a 15-minute drive from the site and set up to recreate a Flemish village in 1900. The major Belgian point of interest close by is Ypres, 20 minutes' drive from the site, where you can tour the battlefields, visit the war cemeteries and learn more about the area's historical significance at the In Flanders Fields Museum.
