  • Small, family-friendly Tarn site with a pool and stunning rural views
  • Cordes-sur-Ciel 10 minutes’ drive; UNESCO-listed Albi 20 minutes
  • Swimming pool with deck; table d’hote restaurant and kids’ activities
If your idea of heaven is camping among vineyards, olive groves and sunflower fields, best get packed and head for Camping Camp Redon, five minutes’ drive from the sleepy Tarn hamlet of Livers-Cazelles. And stunning rural views are not all you get here, for this small, peaceful and family-owned site is within 25 minutes’ drive of several fortified hill towns and villages, so there’s lots to do while you’re out and about. Should you prefer to do some serious lazing around, well, you’ve come to the right place for that too. Checked for water quality everyday, the outdoor swimming pool is wrapped by a sun deck – just the spot for a snooze or time spent with a good book. When hunger strikes, it’s a mere few steps to the terrace restaurant (pre-booking required), where you can sample local Gaillac wines or tuck into delicious dishes showcasing local charcuterie and seasonal produce. Barbecue and pizza nights are held high season, when there’s also a bread delivery service from the local baker. Kids will never be bored when playing ping-pong or table football, and in school holidays, the owners also organise canoeing on the River Aveyron or pony riding through the fields.

Local attractions

Several scenic hiking and cycling trails through Tarn vineyards, sunflower fields and olive groves can be directly accessed from the site; ask the owners for more details. For a fun-filled day out with the kids, head for Cap Découverte (15 minutes’ drive), a lakeside activity centre set up with waterslides, rope courses, go-karts and waterski hire. There’s a fair amount of history to discover in this gorgeous corner of south-west France; classed as one of the prettiest villages in France, Cordes-sur-Ciel (10 minutes) is a prime example of a “bastide” (fortified) hilltop town dating from the early 13th century. Castelnau-de-Montmiral (20 minutes) has a medieval heart centred on an arcaded medieval square, while UNESCO-listed Albi (20 minutes) beckons with an atmospheric red-brick old town, a soaring cathedral and fine artwork in the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum. You can visit the Abbey Saint-Michel in handsome, historic Gaillac (25 minutes), which also sits at the centre of its namesake wine region. There are several vineyards open for tours, tasting and buying within 20 minutes’ drive of your pitch.
