  • Family-friendly site in the Lot, five minutes’ walk from Goujounac
  • Within 30 minutes' drive of Gourdon, Belvès and Monpazier
  • Outdoor pool, tennis, basketball, volleyball, snack kiosk and bar
Do you dream of old houses, French markets and towns you can take your camera to for hours? Have a look at Camping 46 Rainettes, a five-minute walk from the village of Goujounac in the Occitane region of the south of France. The site is well placed to venture around the region’s stunning towns and villages: wander the old streets of Belvès, Monpazier, Puy L’Évêque and Gourdon, or visit the markets at Cazals, Duravel or Prayssac, all within 30 minutes' drive of the site. Further afield, the UNESCO-protected Rocamadour, built on the side of a cliff face, is a must-see. If it’s stunning villages you want, start with Goujounac: take in the houses covered in ochre stones, the views to the low hills, and the spectacular church and its Romanesque carvings. That’s a lot of villages to explore, so you’re going to want to keep fit while on site… Play for a game-set-match on the tennis court, shoot a round of basketball or net a few points in volleyball. Slow things down with a game of pétanque, then during the high season cool off in the outdoor swimming pool before a bite to eat at the snack kiosk and a drink in the bar. For something a little more substantial, head to one of the restaurants in Goujounac or, if you prefer to fend for yourself, pick something up from the shops at Cahors, a 35-minute drive from 46 Rainettes, to grill on the barbecue.

Local attractions

There’s plenty near 46 Rainettes to keep history buffs occupied: a host of museums are within 20 minutes' drive, as are the medieval gardens at Jardin du Barry. Take a step back in time with a 25-minute drive to 13th-century Château de Bonaguil or 15th-century Château de Lantis, then dive below ground to see the cave paintings at Grottes Préhistoriques de Cougnac, 35 minutes away. Dinosaur enthusiasts will be doing their best Jeff Goldblum here: at Pterosaur Beach a 20-minute drive away, there's an active paleontological dig at a site where the footprints of hundreds of dinosaurs have been uncovered. After that, plod along to Luzech to visit the Ichnospace, a museum of footprints and fossils from the Jurassic era. If kids have somehow not been entertained by caves or dinosaurs, there are a number of theme parks reasonably close by that should get them back on side. At Pirate Park in Penne d’Agenais (45 minutes), younger kids can try to solve the pirate’s riddles to find the hidden treasure or, if you’re up for a slightly longer drive, head to Walibi theme park and waterpark in Agen, an hour and a half from the site, for something a little more high-octane.
