  • Palm-shaded family site five minutes’ drive from Saint-Cyprien’s beach
  • Perpignan 15 minutes’ drive and Banyuls-sur-Mer half an hour
  • Waterpark and sports courts; a restaurant and evening entertainment
Escape the bustle of the Languedoc-Roussillon’s Mediterranean resorts and book into Ze Camping at Camping Le Bosc; you’ll have lots of greenery around you plus plenty of family facilities and still only be five minutes’ drive away from Saint-Cyprien’s six kilometres of fine sand. To make your life even easier, in July and August a free mini-train runs between the site and the beach from 9am to midnight daily. This site is shaded by palm trees and planted with Mediterranean vegetation. Cosy accommodation is in neat mobile homes with open-plan kitchen and living spaces, double and twin bedrooms and shower rooms. Outside each one is a covered terrace with bags of room for alfresco dining – pick up what you need in the well-stocked grocery store or head for the restaurant and dine on its pretty terrace. Leafy footpaths lead to the waterpark, with several outdoor pools, a paddling pool and waterslides. Soak up the sun on the deck or join in activities like beach volleyball games and pétanque tournaments, play tennis, go to a yoga class… There’s plenty for all ages on site as there’s also a kids’ club on summer weekdays. Evenings at Camping Le Bosc are also full of entertainment, with magic shows, pool parties and karaoke the name of the game – but don’t worry about losing sleep because everything stops at midnight. If you want to carry on any later, the bars of Saint-Cyprien await…

Local attractions

First stop on family holidays may well be the beaches of Saint-Cyprien (five minutes’ drive), but you can visit beaches in two countries in one day: head for gorgeous Banyuls-sur-Mer (half an hour) to snorkel in the Cerbère-Banyuls marine reserve, and then take the scenic coastal drive over the border into Catalan Spain, stopping off at pretty beaches like Platja de Garbet (an hour) along the way. Closer to home, there are myriad historic sights to see in centuries-old Perpignan (15 minutes). Chief among them is the Palace of the Kings of Mallorca, begun in 1276 and stretching over a vast complex built around three serene courtyards. The red-brick cathedral also warrants a look for its soaring vaulted nave, and the Musée d’Art Hyacinthe Rigaud has an outstanding collection of regional paintings. A little less known but just as enchanting, Collioure (20 minutes) offers a castle overlooking the sea and a masterpiece of religious art in the shape of an ornate carved altarpiece in Notre-Dame-des-Anges church.
