It's big rather than small happiness at the mountain site of Le P'tit Bonheur – at least if you crave a peaceful rural location, clear clean air with no light pollution, spectacular views, and a setting kept as natural as possible.
And a slice or three of homemade pizza might be in order too…? Join in at one of the pizza and bread making sessions on site, where samples of both are kneaded with varying levels of professionalism by guests' own fair hands. The dough of both is then baked in the woodfired oven, to have for supper (pizza) and breakfast (bread, and you couldn't possibly comment if that ofttime includes pizza too).
Le P'tit Bonheur is a friendly countryside and forest site of six hectares at the foot of the Massif du Tres Estelles, in the Catalan Pyrenees Regional Nature Park a 10-minute walk from the Pyrénées-Orientales town of Escaro. Horse riding, canoeing, canyoning, hiking and climbing are all in the region – as are thermal spas if the thought of too much activity makes you fret after too much pizza.
The centrepiece of the site is the clear and green natural pool, 20 by 11 metres to a depth of 1.9 metres at one end and with a shallow part at the other for safe splashing. After a few hours of that, there's table tennis and table football to test your skills at, before testing skills of a different sort at the shared barbecue area – or you could just go and knead another pizza…

The campground/park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Breed-specific legislation (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.- The outdoor swimming pool is open between 06/15 and 09/15 (subject to weather conditions).
- Entertainment and activities are available between 07/02 and 08/20.
- Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

Liked: Nothing! Terrible site, website pictures must be 40 years old, no shower block, loo a porcelain hole in the floor with a hosepipe not clean, pitch up took deposit and owner didn’t even answer our email when we arrived and explained we couldn’t get our small campervan in….

Local attractions
The site's setting in the Catalan Pyrenees Regional Nature Park means there's wildlife and scenic hiking all around, as well as more adventurous options like canyoning, climbing and kayaking. Four nature reserves are within a 20-kilometre radius of Escaro.
Leave right from the site to trek among the mountains and forest, or find a spot nearby to settle down for a few hours as night falls: Le P'tit Bonheur is in a remote and peaceful place with clear skies for stargazing and no noise pollution so you can listen out for local wildlife.
If you seek a yet more serene time, drive for 25 minutes or so to the spa town of Vernet-les-Bains. Several walks lead from town, including – if you seek not a serene but an energetic time – a starting point for the clamber up to the summit of Canigou.
Le P'tit Bonheur's amiable and knowledgeable owners also reckon guests should get along to the Tuesday morning market at Prades, about 21 kilometres away, and the abbeys of Saint-Michel de Cuxa and Saint-Martin du Canigou, both within 35 minutes' drive.
