  • Peaceful woodland park a mile from Morbihan beaches
  • Waterpark with indoor and outdoor pools, slides and paddling pools
  • Tennis, miniature golf, bouncy castle and summer entertainment
What a good spot this is, in a woodland setting between Guidel’s town centre, 10 minutes’ drive away, and its beach, five minutes away. Flower Camping Les Jardins de Kergal is also a fine base if you’re planning to see more of Brittany’s Morbihan area – it’s less than half an hour’s drive to Lorient and a spread of attractions that takes in animal parks, châteaux and golf course (plus, of course, plenty of beaches…). There’s a fair spread of attractions on site too: for starters, many an hour of family time could easily be whiled away splashing around in the swimming pools (an indoor one that’s open every day and an outdoor one open in peak season), paddling pools and waterslides. Take time to towel off briefly, for there’s more beyond that: tennis and multisports courts, table tennis and a miniature golf course offer stages to play out sibling rivalries, and there’s a playground and bouncy castle for those less prone to competition. Family-friendly entertainment is also on the menu for summer days and evenings. All this activity relies on a regular infusion of food of course, and it’s a cinch to sort supplies here – either at the site’s shop or the supermarkets in Guidel. Summer guests can snaffle snacks, cold drinks and evening meals at the snack bar, or drink their way down the cocktail menu (although do remember to place your order for the next day's bread and pastry delivery before getting too tipsy…).

Local attractions

Best way to get about in the immediate surrounds? Bring a bike or hire on site for the 10-minute jaunt to the beach. Once at the coast, keep going along the sea-view bike path or board a little ferry to cross to the family-friendly sands of Bas-Pouldu (15 minutes). If you don’t fancy balancing a surfboard on your bike, it’s a 15-minute drive to the big waves of Kérou beach. If les enfants’ hols aren’t complete without chucking at some animals, take them off to meet the big birds at Saudrayes ostrich farm (five minutes’ drive) or the mixed menagerie at Pont Scorff Zoo (20 minutes). Animals don’t generally roam around Lorient (25 minutes) but it’s worth a visit anyway, particularly if you’re interested in seeing the sailing museum and the Keroman Submarine Base. Fancy seeing the handiwork of folk who lived in these parts many moons ago? Pile everyone in the car for the trip to Carnac (50 minutes) to see the ancient standing stones – if you need a real mission to tire the small sorts out, see if you can tick off all 3,000 of them.
