Forest, river, lake and the splendid sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast – if you like your landscapes, the Landes department's Camping La Clairière is un bon place to be. The site is set right in the Landes forest, only a few minutes from the sands and sea of the Atlantic, and near the watersports and splendid scenery of Lake Aureilhan. It also stretches over three and a half scenic hectares bordered by a river – it's pretty much a given you'll find a fair bit to see and do in the area here… A fair bit to see and do for all sizes is on site too, including a big outdoor pool, a mini golf course, a pétanque court, a volleyball court and ping pong tables alongside a paddling pool and large well-equipped play area for les enfants. A kids' club runs in high season as well as family evening entertainment including karaoke, concerts and theme nights at the spacious bar and restaurant. Wifi is available on site for an extra charge. La Clairière also has bike hire: just the ticket for pedalling off towards the coast or along the many trails encircling Lake Aureilhan.

Liked: Very welcoming and friendly girl on reception pitch was ideal all staff I had contact with were very pleasant and helpful especially as I do not speak good French. Showers and toilets clean enjoyed the stay

Merci pour votre avis.
Il ne s'agissait pas uniquement d'un campeur mais de plusieurs personnes qui prenaient leur douche tardivement, claquaient les portes des douches, parlaient fort et écoutaient de la musique. De nombreux emplacements étaient dérangés par les nuisances sonores et pour le bien de tous nous avons fermé les douches à 23h plusieurs jours. Nous souhaitons que le camping reste agréable pour tous et que chacun puisse se reposer correctement, d'autant plus de 23h est une heure relativement tardive.

Liked: Really nice staff, great pool and big pitches (if you opt for large).

Disliked: Facilities seemed to always be broken or in a state of disrepair. No noise curfew so very loud at night.

Liked: Proximity to a wonderful cycle path.
Relative proximity to an amazing beach at Mimizan Plage.
Very friendly life guard.

Disliked: No hand soap in bathrooms- in a post-Covid world this seems unreal!
The campsite stopped loo roll in the toilets for a number of days, so it was take your own loo roll- again unreal!
Very dusty site- the car was blathered in a horrible brown dust.
Lots of ants.
Very small pitches- with no privacy hedges- never encountered this in France before- always had huge, grassy pitches, demarked with hedging.
Barely any grass on the pitch- mainly a sandy dust.
WiFi quality very poor.

From the manager: What would seem unreal is that campers don't bring soap with them!
What also seems unreal is the lack of respect shown by some campers who emptied an entire roll of toilet paper to roll up all the toilets. For this reason, we were forced to remove the toilet paper for one day.
The site is dusty when holidaymakers don't respect the speed limit (10 km/h in the campsite).
The pitches are the size indicated on the site, and are delimited by shrubs, because we don't want to barricade the area - that's not the camping spirit we want. At the end of the summer, when the campers have put tarpaulins on the ground, unfortunately the grass does choke! And you're wrong: in France, there are many campsites where the pitches are not marked out.

Local attractions

On land, on water, by foot, pedal or hoof… a heap of outdoorsy options is around La Clairière: Landes is fairly well known for its horse riding, hiking and cycling, so get stuck into one, two or all three at countryside or coast. Lake Aureilhan is also a well-known spot for active days out in this part of the Landes: make your way here for watery sports like paddleboarding, swimming, rowing, canoeing, pedal boating and taking out a Hawaiian pirogue canoe, or for casting off for fishy specimens such as carp, pike, perch and eel. The trails around the lake are fine places to take your wheels or feet for scenic afternoons. For indoor and/or cultural days, the nearby Prieuré Museum is filled with medieval arty bits including 15th-century mural paintings, or, a bit further away, you could cross the border into Spain for a day in San Sebastián, a former European City of Culture.

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

A valid vaccination certificate must accompany your dog.
Dogs must be kept on leashes and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.
