  • Static caravans at a peaceful site in Périgord's 'Golden Triangle'
  • Sarlat-la-Canéda, Les Eyzies and Lascaux cave 15 minutes' drive
  • Outdoor pool, restaurant-bar, river fishing and access to a lake beach
The Dordogne region is well known for being a green and gorgeous area, but Ze Camping at Camping Le Pont de Mazerat manages to take that one step further by being located in a protected Natura 2000 zone. You’ll really reap the benefits of this nature-filled location while you're staying here – not least because it means easy access to fishing in the river Beune (which runs through the site) and watersports, swimming and beach time (plus more fishing) at the Tamniès pond, 300 metres away. The folk that run this site have made every effort to preserve the peaceful rural atmosphere of the area while also providing options for activity and entertainment on site. The aquatic area (with a 120 m² outdoor swimming pool, a paddling pool and plenty of sun loungers) is likely to be a highlight for many guests, and the site also has a mini golf course, a multisports field, two pétanque courts and games including billiards, table tennis and table football. A large play area with a trampoline is on site for keeping the kids busy, and activities like baking and board games are laid on for them a couple of mornings a week in summer (sessions are free but you'll need to sign up as numbers are limited). Quizzes, treasure hunts, themed meals and live music evenings are also on the schedule in high season soon. The static caravans here all have a well-equipped kitchen (pick up supplies at the site shop or in Sarlat-la-Canéda, 15 minutes’ drive away) – but there’s also a bar-restaurant on site for those times when you don't fancy cooking.

Local attractions

The surrounding area is known as the Golden Triangle of the Périgord Noir, and there are several lovely ways to get out to explore. You may like to start by taking a walk along one of the scenic waymarked hiking trails or heading out on a mountain bike (available to hire on site), but there are other options around too, including horse riding (10 minutes' drive), canoeing or traditional gabare boat trips (both half an hour). There's heaps of history to explore too – you’ll definitely want to have a stroll around Sarlat-la-Canéda, and it's also worth visiting the ancient paintings of the Lascaux cave and learning more about prehistory at Les Eyzies (all 15 minutes away). Pretty Domme (half an hour) and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle Castle are also close by for a further heritage fix. To get the kids enthused about history, try a trip to Préhisto Parc (20 minutes) or a day at Le Parc du Bournat (25 minutes), where a 19th-century village is brought to life with rides and craft demos.
