It’s always a reassuring sight to see a swathe of gushing reviews for a site... and you'll surely be chuffed to read the ones for Tretio Caravan and Camping. ‘…really friendly, helpful owners’, ‘the best [facilities] I've ever been to’, ‘everything a family could ask for'… this is a properly popular place. And there are some properly popular places close by too: Tretio is 10 minutes’ drive from St Davids and within easy reach of several of Pembrokeshire’s loveliest beaches and its fab coastal path. All are welcome at this peaceful and well-maintained park, but it’s particularly well set up for family hols. Hours of entertainment await the tiddlers at the climbing wall, nine-hole pitch and putt course, ball games field and play areas, and there's live music once a week in high season too. Those acclaimed facilities include a family bathroom and a baby changing area. A little shop on site is stocked with everyday basics (milk, bread and the like); for more substantial eats, head into St Davids for restaurants and supermarkets, or get in the queue for the burger and pizza van that comes to the site once a week in high season.

Liked: We received a warm friendly welcome from Jan on our arrival despite the heavy rain she came to our pitch to meet us whilst we were setting up.

The facilities were clean & everything needed was here.
My wife is disabled and found the accessable bathroom really clean & easy to use.

We have a dog with us & I found the walks to access the coastal path easy to find. I recommend taking the path it's beautiful but you need to be fit in some places it gets steep & rocky.

The campsite also has a pitch & put golf course which is good for exercising the dog on.

In all we'd recommend coming here as we'll definitely also be coming back again ourselves.

A lovely couple run the site & couldn't have been more accommodating regarding my wife's disability offering us a move to a pitch closer to the facilities.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.

Jan was incredibly helpful throughout our stay, without being an ever present or overbearing. We arrived late and a note had been left giving us a choice of pitches, along with a contact number should we need any assistance. The next day some helpful local information had been left for us whilst we were out and it wasn't until the 3rd day until we actually met.

Route directions

From Haverfordwest take the A487 to St Davids. When you enter St Davids at the roundabout take the third exit (signposted Whitesands/Fishguard) and follow this bypass to the end. At the T-junction turn left and then first right (by the rugby club). Stay on this road, following the brown tourist sign for Tretio, for three miles. (You will pass through Rhodiad y Brenin and pass Pembrokeshire Sheepdogs.) Turn right (signposted Tretio) and follow the road for approximately 500 metres until you reach the site. (Satnav will take you across Tretio Common which is not suitable for long motorhomes or caravans.)

Local attractions

Beaches… lots of them. Walk across fields and farm tracks to hit the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and nearest (dog-friendly) beach in half an hour, drive to top surf spot Whitesands Bay in 10 minutes or so, or take a short drive north to gaze out over the Blue Lagoon in Abereiddy. For active adventures, local operators can arrange trips including coasteering, scuba diving, surfing, rock climbing, horse riding, kayaking and windsurfing – chat with the friendly folk on site for the best options. The Welsh weather being occasionally a tad unpredictable, it’s a good idea to have wet-weather plans up your sleeve: perhaps the bouncy Hangar 5 trampoline park half an hour away, or the nipper-pleasing Dr Beynon's Bug Farm, 10 minutes away (you can even feast on insect-based snacks here if you feel so inclined).
