  • A 20-minute drive from the beaches of the Ceredigion coast
  • River walks and fishing from site; 5 minutes' drive from pub and shops
Ah, Cardigan Bay… cliffs, dolphins, castles, rivers and green hills… Fill your boots with the best of the bay and the whole county of Camarthenshire from a base on this spacious and friendly site, with free site-side wifi added in summer 2019. If you know your Welsh, or your Wales, you'll know that Afon Teifi Caravan and Camping is a riverside site, right on the banks of the Teifi; it's also about five minutes' drive from the lively market town of Newcastle Emlyn and around 20 minutes from the coast. It's a spacious site with a playing field along with a playground for kids of all ages and a games room kitted out with pool table, table tennis and a dartboard. Barbecues and campfires are allowed and you can stock up supplies for your alfresco feasts in nearby Newcastle Emlyn, as well as treat yourself to local ales and hot fresh food in the pubs. The site has 15 acres of lovely riverside land for the exclusive use of its visitors (human and canine): take a walk along the Teifi or fish from the banks for trout, sea trout and salmon with daily, weekly and season tickets available to purchase from the reception desk. Maybe you'll catch something for supper…

Friendly, helpful staff and clean facilities. Spacious, level pitches near the river. Great for families with a play park and river activities. Peaceful, though some noise noted. Good base for exploring.

Liked We loved the whole experience and had the most magical time. The kids absolutely loved the park and making friends. The kids loved being able to roam safely around the site. The toilet block was absolutely spotless and showers Lovely and warm. The river a minute away was beautiful and we spent hours fishing , paddleboarding and havinh a bbq there.
Also a massive thank you to the super helpful wardens. He helped me move a picnic table, found some buckets for my children to use at the river and helped us start out fire. And when we ran out of gas for our stove he delivered us a bottle.
The vibe on the campsite was lovely and everyone was so nice and chatty.

Liked Afon Teifi , stayed 3 nights on a grass pitch with EHU. The pitch was level and well drained making for easy set up. The warden and staff on site were extremely helpful and available to assist with any issues.
The location has a lovely riverside walk and a mowed path making dog walking a delight each morning. Easy access for fishing on the Teifi with a junior permit available from TTA for £3 a day. With New quay (30min) and the beautiful Cenarth falls (10min) from the site.

Liked It was clean and well kept. The walk around the enclosed field and the river was lovely. Although busy, the noise was kept down after 1030pm.

Disliked Not a negative, as they were clean and tidy, but the site could do with another toilet and shower block.

Liked We had a fantastic stay at this campsite! The setting is beautiful, with river walks right on site. The facilities are spotless; the showers and toilets are cleaned regularly and clearly well looked after. The atmosphere felt safe and welcoming, which made our time here even more relaxing.

A special mention has to go to the warden, who was attentive, friendly, and always ready to help with any questions or little needs that came up. The children especially loved the play area – it was a great way for them to make friends and burn off energy while we enjoyed the surroundings.

We’ll definitely be returning and would highly recommend this site to families, couples, and anyone looking for a clean, safe, and scenic place to camp.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Very friendly site with great facilities. This site is more oriented to families, but is suitable for all. There is lots of activity ranging from young children to teenagers. A nice park, a games room, a field and walk next to a river (great if you have animals). Most people that attend are respectful, it isn't too noisy and once it gets dark, is calm and quiet enough to sleep all night no problem. A great all around site, where you can pitch up and relax for a few days. Worth noting the showers were always hot, and cleaned multiple times per day. This is a nice retreat. If you want to plan for a longer stay, there's a large chest freezer, washing and drying machines available in the cleaning block for a small fee.

Disliked Nothing to complain about campsite wise. However, it's worth noting the location is quite remote. There's a garage nearby, and a few miles down the road there is a small town, and a small super market. It's about a 25-30 minute drive from NewQuay/Aberaeron.

What this site lacks in 'location' it certainly makes up for with outstanding facilities.

Local attractions

Castles? Sorted. The ruined castle in Newcastle Emlyn is one of many built to defend this much-fought-over slice of green and pleasant land; Cilgerran, 15 minutes away, has ruinous traces of all the people who've sacked it and seized it, while 11th-century Cardigan Castle has been so well restored you'd think it was still in use. If you feel like going further back in time, spin a yarn or two at the National Wool Museum, five minutes' drive away, or hoof it over to Castell Henllys (30 minutes) to experience life in a working replica Iron Age village. The seals and dolphins have been visiting the waters of Cardigan Bay since long before the castles: spot them via a sea safari from New Quay, half an hour away. Alternatively take your binoculars when you hit the beach there, or at the similarly well-appointed sandy strips of Aberporth, Mwnt, Llangrannog and Poppit Sands, all between 20 minutes' and half an hour's drive. Antics off the sands include canoeing through the Teifi gorge from Cilgerran and walks along the 60-mile long Ceredigion Coast Path, as well as birdwatching opportunities aplenty heading inland along the wetlands of the Teifi estuary. For family days out involving thrill rides, wild beasts and high-octane active stuff, the trio of Oakwood Theme Park, Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo and Heatherton World of Activities are all around an hour's drive away.
