  • Small-scale site on a Snowdonia smallholding close to the A470
  • A 20-minute drive to Blaenau Ffestiniog; half an hour to Snowdon
  • 20 minutes’ walk to the village pub and shop
With walks around local mountains and lakes or zipwires, subterranean trampolines and mountain biking a short drive away, Camp Stesion is an almost wild camping site which is never too far from outdoorsy activities… that’s very good news for the active sorts. Just as good news for scenery seekers is that this laidback site is in a splendid part of Snowdonia and part of a small smallholding where mornings are marked by mountain views, or perhaps an early start to make the most of Blaenau Ffestiniog, the Zip World Slate Caverns and Antur Stiniog’s mountain biking trails (which are all 20 minutes’ drive away) or to climb Mount Snowdon (you'll have choice of six paths up to the summit about half an hour's drive away). This is a small-scale campsite, so you get almost the same feeling as you would out in the wilds, just with the comforts of toilets, hot showers, an outdoor sink and drinking water. There’s no wifi here, but there's good 4G coverage across the spacious pitches (each of which is about 300 square metres). In addition, each pitch has a firepit. As this is a quiet area next to the village of Trawsfynydd, the peace is kept since loud music and motorhomes are not allowed. Easy to get about? Another tick in the box. The site is just off the A470 and there’s a biking centre just 10 minutes’ drive away. Trawsfynydd is accessible on foot (20 minutes’ walk) – there you’ll be able to grab basic supplies in the village shop or cosy in for a meal in the local pub. Group bookings are not permitted; the site only accepts bookings from solo campers, couples and families.

Squirrel camping pod

Liked: The location was beautiful, with lots to explore nearby.
The toilets and showers were clean and close.
There was a semi outdoor kitchen.
The pod was lovely inside.
They kindly let me pitch my tent too.

Disliked: There was a small gap in the pod which the wind whistled through, quite loudly!

From the manager: Thank you for leaving a review.
We will get that small gap closed up Asap.

Fox Den with hammocks cabin

Liked: Loved the fact the site was so peaceful
Booked the fox one that had 2 hammocks it was just bliss the fire pit was set up ready for us
Also loved the fact we were the only ones on the site! Until later on but that’s fine. I love places where you’re unbothered

Disliked: The was a caterpillar in one of the beds wriggling around which was gross. So I’m
Hoping the sheets were clean!
Bed was really uncomfortable but wasn’t asleep for long as was up most of the night anyway sat by the fire pit

From the manager: Thank you for leaving a review- And an answer to your question, yes the sheets were 1000% clean..... and Caterpillar's only like clean sheet's :)

If you read the Description the Bed"s are Camp Bed's to fit in with the Camping experience ... But we apologise for your uncomfortable night, feedback is always welcome when it comes to comfort and we will be changing them to normal bed"s this week.

We will take your comments onboard like we do with any other review about people getting grossed out with the Bugs, Spiders, Birds and all The Wildlife that"s around the Camp the only advice I can give is- Find a Hotel not a Camp site.
We are not in the middle of the City, We are VERY rural, you will see wildlife, hear Sheep, Cow"s and Foxe's, hear the Bird's in the Tree's singing their morning chorus and see plenty of Bugs, also If you sit by a fire all night then the bugs sometimes hitch a ride on your clothes and find themselves in your Cabin.

Cwt Cariad shepherd's hut (deluxe)

Liked: Cozy hut with amazing views. Quiet site but not too far to local amenities. Clean, comfortable & quiet.

Disliked: The last section of road to the site was awful to drive in a non 4x4 though very authentic.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.
The last 100 meters of road is a single farm track but has now been re surfaced. No need for a 4x4 to get to the Camp.

Rabbit shepherd's hut

Liked: Only option for the review is young, middle age and mature! I'm going for young but mid 30's... Beautiful setting, really convenient location. Showers were amazing, hot and powerful. Camp kitchen had all the things you need to cook simple dinner. We stayed in the rabbit cabin mid October. The cabin is so well insulated and lovely. We were the only people staying so hard to judge what it would be like if full but really enjoyed our stay

Disliked: Cabin would benefit from a little porch so there was some shelter to sit outside if it was raining. Would be really handy if the kitchen had some stock items like salt and pepper sachets.

Squirrel camping pod

Liked: Best camp there is. List:-

Manager:- I liked how I paid for Fox den (65 quid) and later realized it does not have duvets included in it ( I did not read the description.I called the camp manager Vicky and she sorted out the squirrel pod for me which costs 70 quid. Not only did she provide me with duvets but also did not charge me the extra 5 quid.

Services:- There was hot water in shower , toilet and kitchen. The kitchen has all the utensils you will ever need, stove to do your cooking as well and soap to do your washing. There was a separate tap for drinking water as well.

Disliked: None of the things listed here are the issues with campsite or manager but the weather and the timing.

I came during winter (4 degrees) and nevertheless the pod was cold too the duvet kept me warm the catch being "don't get out of it"

I came late ( cancelled train) and had to leave early due to a planned trip so I couldn't take pictures as both the times it was extremely dark.

From the manager: Thank you Although weather in uk is unpredictable we will be closing a little earlier in the season next year.

Local attractions

Kicking off your getaway with some action won’t be a problem. Take a 35-minute walk to Llyn Trawsfynydd and you could be hiking, cycling or fishing. Up for a drive instead? Tear up the mountain biking trails of Coed-y-Brenin (15 minutes’ drive) and the downhill runs at Antur Stiniog (20 minutes). Zip World Slate Caverns (20 minutes) has zipwires and underground trampolines for bounces beneath the slate. A little history for you too? Blaenau Ffestiniog (20 minutes) is a historic mining town with plenty of that to explore, or you could tackle the Precipice Walk (20 minutes), a scenic trail that traces the route of an old tramway. There’s really plenty of variety around here to keep everyone busy, from the Pistyll y Cain (20 minutes) waterfall to Barmouth’s seaside amusements and many outdoor activities (35 minutes).
