  • Plas yn Rhiw gardens over the road; 15 minutes' drive to Abersoch
  • Access to the sea to swim dive surf fish kayak & bookable boat trips
Ty'r Felin campsite is set in a beautiful old meadow at the top of a steep slope overlooking the huge bay of Porth Neigwl, with its 4 mile long sandy beach. The camping field is at the top of the property level with the road, and from there a track winds down to the sea. Ty'r Felin is a truly magical place steeped in history that feels like stepping back in time 200 years, to a place where there is no electricity cables, telephone wires, TV aerials, tarmac or street lights. Crafted Camping at Ty’r Felin is a small family-run campsite located in a beautiful meadow camping field, a field of ancient wildflower-rich grassland set on the edge of the land at the end of the Llyn Peninsula overlooking the sea, along the length of Porth Neigwl and across to the Cilan headland. The field is in a very rural setting & a very beautiful and wild spot overlooking the sea to the east and a wooded hill to the south, which is the foothill of Mynydd Rhiw. The ethos of our campsite: We offer you the opportunity to come & stay somewhere different, somewhere wild & beautiful at the edge of the land and next to the sea. We offer you the opportunity to get away from everything on a site with no electricity or wi-fi, and to live differently, to tread lightly on this beautiful earth. Water is a precious resource on this site, as it is drawn up from a well of delicious ground water which has seeped down through the rocks from Mynydd Rhiw. Because water is precious we have built beautiful water-free compost loos for you to use, which we can assure you are comfortable and pleasant to use, and smell-free because of their modern design. We have also created lovingly crafted wet room cubicles where you can have a hot shower in private whilst looking out at the sky & clouds, the moon & stars. We ask guests to use the well water sparingly. We hope you will experience the sense of connectedness to the outdoors and to the earth whilst living and washing outdoors at Ty’r Felin. Fire pits with grills are available to hire and logs & locally made charcoal available to buy on site, so you can cook & eat outside under the sky, and sit round the fire with friends and share stories and songs. Fire pits should be raised off the ground with the bricks provided at all times, so they burn more efficiently and do not scorch or pose a fire risk to the meadow camping field. Disposable & electric BBQs are not permitted on site.

What customers say

This campsite boasts a stunning, serene setting with amazing views and beach access via a coastal path. Guests raved about the friendly, helpful hosts, Bob and Megan. Showers/washrooms were spotless and had hot water. The relaxed atmosphere and activities like crabbing and paddleboarding were popular. A few preferred standard toilets to compost ones.

Primitive grass and earth campervan campsite

Liked Stunning location with access to the sea. Pitch was overlooking nearby beach. Spotted dolphins in the bay. Great owner was very helpful. A fire pit and kindling & logs available for £10.

Disliked The toilet facilities were very basic. The urinal was a hay bale and the loos (two) are composting involving spreading sawdust. The single shower was handheld and ran cold very quickly. When we attended there were signs asking for water to be used sparingly. Very remote so no walkable pubs or amenities.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked The views are great, but probably only a 1 time visit to this site for us.

Composting toilets full of flies and outside urinal smells quite a lot. The buildings themselves are in good order, maybe they were due to be emptied when we stayed? Camping field on a slope, which makes for an uncomfortable night's sleep if you don't manage to get the 2 or 3 level pitches around the edge.

It's a shame because the owner seems like a nice guy and you can see he really tries to make the place nice (which it is for the most part) but I felt the £30 a night is overpriced compared to flatter campsites with flushing toilets close by.

The beach is large rocks (no sand) at the bottom of the steep hill but you can walk the 10 minutes extra walk to get to sand further round, be careful with young children as rocks are slippery.

All I would say is have a look at the campsite before staying if possible, it may be your perfect location. For us, we felt there's better value just a stones throw away in the Llyn area.

From the manager: Thank you very much for your review. We take on board all feedback, and will continue to work hard to ensure our facilities are as clean & pleasant to use as possible, although we do need guests to close the toilet lids & toilet doors to keep the flies out!
We encourage all our guests to share their comments & feedback during their stay so we can address any issues that they have straight away.
There is enough pretty flat ground for all of the pitches listed & booked, but some people have chosen to camp on the sloping part of the field, where there are no marked pitches in order to get a better view of the sea. That is people's own choice if they choose to camp on this sloping part of the field.
We are a small campsite which offers a higher ratio of facilities to campers, and can provide more individual help, attention & local recommendations.
We know we are a niche campsite & cannot meet everyone's needs. Thank you for coming to stay, & we hope you find another campsite in the area that suits your needs better.
Many thanks & all the best, Bob & Meg

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked The site was fully booked when we visited, but there was plenty of space for all the tents. It is good that the owners do not try and pack too many people in.
The facilities are basic, but clean and well maintained. The view over Hell's Mouth is fantastic, and overall the site is in great location for visiting the nearby towns and beaches.

We would definitely camp here again.

Liked Beautiful views, hot water, no signal and a chance to disconnect in nature. Owners were lovely. Bob was a character and we had some good chats. Fire pits and wood available for small fee. Morning swims at the beach were magic.

Primitive grass and earth campervan campsite

Liked A small, wonderfully peaceful site with beautiful views of sea and wooded hills. Five minute walk down the track to pebble beach for swimming, another 5-10 min along shore to Hells Mouth beach. National Trust house with tea room across road. Bob and Meg are lovely people. Highly recommended.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Wow, what a view!! Just home from a lovely 3 night break. Met Bob shortly after arrival who was very friendly and sorted us out with a fire pit and wood. The kids enjoyed the space to run free with their kites and games. Eco friendly facilities exceeded expectations, were very well maintained and spotless. Short walk down to the seafront to sit and watch the world go by or even have a dip! Water so refreshing for a morning swim. Would love to return in the future and would highly recommend to anyone wanting to switch off and enjoy the stunning views.

Ready tent (four person)

Liked Beautiful location, watching the full moon rise over the sea was amazing, as was seeing all the bats which came out in the evening. Really appreciated the option of the readymade tent, took a lot of stress out of the process. Very friendly owners.
