  • Popular place for hikers, bikers and Mach Loop viewers
  • Surrounded by woodland and farmland, 35 mins' drive from Zip World
  • Easy access to the Torrent Walk and Coed-y-Brenin mountain bike centre
Hiker, biker or both? Walk this way. Gywnedd’s Torrent Walk Campsite and Bunkhouse is a Snowdonia mecca for mountain bikers and walkers with trails for both all around. The Torrent Walk is only 500 metres from the site and the famed Coed-y-Brenin mountain bike centre is in the area with acres more walking trails around it. And, for the truly hardy, the mountain Cadair Idris and its three trails can be tackled nearby… and for the hardier still, the ziplines and airborne antics of Zip World Bounce Below are 35 minutes' drive away. Back at base, Torrent Walk Campsite and Bunkhouse is surrounded on all sides by woodland, farmland and mountain views, with pitches on a sheltered, level field. Site facilities include a toilet and shower block, disabled facilities, washing machines, tumble dryers, fridges, freezers, a microwave and mobile charging facilities. There’s also a power wash for bikes and equipment, and the Torrent Walk team can store your bike for you if needed. For stocking up, the garage just up the road sells essentials and Campinggaz, a shop and café are within a five-minute walk, and a small supermarket and a wide range of shops are in the village of Dolgellau a mile and a half away. Cooking your own dinner? Campfires are allowed but all the materials must be purchased on site.

Powered grass campsite

Liked: Easy check in. Lovely local area with lots to do.

Disliked: A470 very close and noisy! Very noisy but was a BH weekend. Young chap in a Nissan micro with a broken exhaust driving in and out which was dangerous and noisy - seemed to live or work on site. Area around has been destroyed by horses - a real mess of electric fencing and mud.

Liked: The site was easy to find and get to. With a local shop just down the road.

Disliked: The people managing the site were not welcoming and unwilling to solve an issue we had. Not all pitches are accessible by car so will need to carry equipment to pitch. The lighting at the washing up station does not work so difficult to wash up after dark and although the site does provide WiFi it is a poor connection.

Powered grass campsite

Liked: Good pitch size
Fire pit hire
Reasonable charge for wood
Clean toilets
Free hot showers
Free WiFi
Attendant on site until late
Good location as a base for activities
Shop/Garage within a 15/20 minute walk

Disliked: Site seemed very busy, not sure of its capacity or what it is licensed to hold. Maybe this was due to it being a bank holiday weekend, but wild stay again to see if it as busy on a normal weekend.
Not much room for kids to play football/cricket/frisbee etc…
Although there was an attendant on site, there were some people who didn’t adhere to noise rules after 11pm.
No onsite shop

Powered grass campsite

Liked: The local walks was fantastic great views

Disliked: Rules are not followed ...... quite hours don't exist music till late by other campers constant slamming of doors, and screaming or screeching at 1am. Security don't do nothing to enforce rules.
Far too many dogs for one site owners don't all pick up after dogs and site staff wasn't interested, kids left poo in the toilets

So if you like to party all night long and love to walk in dog poo it's fantastic

From the manager: Hi, as per our response in the email you sent, the quiet hours are from 23:00 and the security guard did make sure it is quiet after that, guests receive instructions and rules on the time of booking , toilets where cleaned hourly, as the campsite was fully booked, people did go in and out and the rain did not help either.
As we said in the email, we recommend calling if there are any problems, the office is closed after a certain time, and we cannot answer emails.
King Regards!

Local attractions

The mountains and trails of Snowdonia, the beaches of Barmouth and the north Wales coast, and heritage attractions like the Rheilffordd Talyllyn Railway and Harlech Castle are all within about half an hour’s drive of Torrent Walk, and Snowdonia National Park has activities for all sorts including whitewater rafting, horse riding, climbing and wild swimming. The closest activity to home is the popular Torrent Walk, a four-mile circular path following the River Clywedog through its gorge; keep an eye out for otters and lesser horseshoe bats along its route. For gentler strolls, the National Trust managed Cregennan Lakes are about five miles west of Dolgellau on the slopes of Cadair ldris, and the flat Mawddach Trail between Dolgellau and Barmouth along the Mawddach estuary has hiking and biking paths with cracking views. Cregannan also has two lakes for fly and worm fishing, one for brown trout and the other for brown and blue. Head to the coast for Barmouth and Fairbourne, both uncrowded and with miles of golden sand and Blue Flag awards. Beaut Barmouth Harbour, at the mouth of the Mawddach Estuary, is where to bag a boat for sea and fishing trips, while Fairbourne is a big pull for windsurfers and other watersport sorts. If sightseeing both seasides, take the Fairbourne Steam Railway from Fairbourne to Penrhyn Point and then the passenger ferry to Barmouth.
