  • Family-friendly site 100 metres from the promenade
  • A 15-minute walk from Barmouth beach; 25 minutes to the town centre
  • Playground and a shop on site; on National Cycle Route 8
Just 100 metres from the sea, Hendre Mynach Caravan and Camping Park is a rather splendid base for a break in northwest Wales. This family-friendly site is a five-minute stroll from Barmouth’s promenade, and sandy Barmouth beach is a pleasant 15 minutes’ walk away – or a quick ride on the small land train that travels up and down the promenade. When you’re not sea fishing from the shore, taking a peaceful paddle or watching the kids bounce on the trampolines on the beach, head to Barmouth Harbour (half an hour’s walk), the departure point for boat trips and off-shore fishing. An amusement park and leisure centre are other entertainment options in town, where foodies will find plenty of cafés and restaurants. Hendre Mynach Caravan and Camping Park is a convivial spot: families, couples, friendly bikers and rallies (outside of peak season, please) are all welcome, as are backpackers and solo travellers (at a discount during low season). There’s a playground for the kids, and keen cyclists are also catered for: National Cycle Route 8 runs past the site. It’s well equipped too, with water on all pitches, washing-up facilities and a modern shower block with shaver points, hairdryer and straighteners. There’s also a launderette, baby-change facilities with a baby bath, Elsan waste disposal points, a drive-on motorhome drain, tarmac roads and CCTV. Helpful staff are available 24 hours a day, gas and wifi are sold at reception, and there’s a shop on site, plus a local bus stop nearby.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Location was perfect, especially as right on the promenade. Walk into Barmouth down the promenade was lovely, especially as the sun was setting above the water.

Disliked: Got unlucky with our pitch as we had a tent and the ground had a slight incline. However, did not see any other pitches similar! Also about a five minute walk away from the bathroom which was a tiny inconvenience, but we were one of the furthest pitches.

Liked: Site location, next to the beach and a short walk to town. Everything clean and well presented.
As a keen hiker, the staff in the office were very helpful and knowledgeable of local trails. They printed off O. S: map pages and pointed out highlights.

Liked: It was set out well. Greated and had introduction of campsite and area, being very near the beach and promenade, told we could walk into town. This was good as we didn't want to drive next day. Toilets and showers were kept very clean and although dated this didn't bother us.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite

Liked: The staff who we met were friendly. It's about 30 minutes walk into Barmouth which is a lovely place. The pitches were OK in size. There is some sound from the railway which runs alongside the site, but given there's only about 2 trains every couple of hours it didn't bother us in the slightest.

Disliked: I appreciate that it's saving energy but the lights in the toilets/showers switch off too much! I also didn't like how there was no lock on the shower door! The road in/out of the site is pretty steep, not an issue entering but some people/vans might struggle! There is, however, a flat route into Barmouth for pedestrians which takes you over the rail tracks then along the sea front

From the manager: Thank you for your comments, hopefully to address a few concerns for others

We will have the electrician look at the timing on the lights
All showers have been checked and all locks are in place
The hill is not an issue as long as you treat it like any other hill - drive in first gear and let the engine pull you up.

Many Thanks for your stay with us

Local attractions

The burial site of Cors y Gedol (10 minutes’ drive) dates from about 4000 BC. Not much is left of the original stone mound, but the sea views alone are well worth the hike, plus you can push on to climb the slopes of Moelfre from here. If mountains are your thing, check out Penygader (35 minutes) and Snowdon (50 minutes), Wales’s highest peak. Got your mountain bike with you? Coed y Brenin Forest Park (half an hour) has eight purpose-build trails catering to all abilities and a skills area to practise your bunny hops, plus hiking paths taking in ruined copper mines, viewpoints and waterfalls. Speaking of which, at Dolgoch Falls (45 minutes), forested trails take you up close and personal to the cascades. At the Italianate-style village of Portmeirion (35 minutes), elegant architecture, pastel-coloured houses and lush subtropical gardens will have you believe you’re in Portofino. Stop for afternoon tea and don’t forget to buy some pottery.
