  • Family-run Mid Wales farm site and wildlife haven just off the A44
  • Llandrindod Wells 10 minutes' drive; 20 minutes to Knighton
  • Local pub with beer garden accessed from the back of the campsite
Stopping over for a night, or in need of a base for a longer break meandering around Mid Wales? Either way, there's a warm welcome at Dolswydd Caravan Park, in a handy spot just off the A44, 10 minutes’ drive from Llandrindod Wells. This family-run site is on the edge of a traditional working farm with a backdrop of open common land and the Welsh hills behind. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it’s something of a wildlife haven, with regular visitors including red kites, otters, woodpeckers and hares as well as the swans who stop by daily. Getting out and about in the local countryside is a cinch from here – walkers can hit major trails like the Offa’s Dyke Path and Glyndŵr's Way, or find quiet local lanes to wander along. Golf, horse riding, canoeing, archery and climbing are among the other activities available nearby, and there’s fishing next door to the site on the River Ithon. Modern facilities on site include bathrooms with toilets and showers, plus a launderette. A short (500-metre) walk away through the back of the campsite is the local pub, which serves good home-cooked food and has a lovely riverside beer garden.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: We arrived late and phoned the number on the booking and were told we could camp anywhere. It wasn't busy so we picked our spot. In the morning it was a lovely surprise, sunny, right by the side of a lovely river, spotlessly clean toilets and showers and a nice path to walk the dog straight from the site. Would definitely recommend and come back. I can't rate the wifi as I didn't use it so don't know if there was any!

Disliked: There was nothing to dislike, it was lovely!

Powered cement/asphalt campsite

Liked: Great little site in the heart of Wales on a working farm. Good walks and cycle routes close by. Convenient for short stays, we just stayed the night. Good fishing sites close by.

It looked as if most of the pitches are seasonal and there was hardly a sole around. The none seasonal pitches are right in front of the toilets and washroom block.

It is on a working farm with lots of sheep and lambs around.

Beautiful place, has an easy access Texaco garage very close by with reasonable fuel prices to fill up for your next journey. There is a cafe/diner next to the garage too.

All in all a great little well kept site. Hard standing pitches are quite level. Told in advance which pitch we were on and the pitches are well laid out. No problems with electric. There were drinking water taps just next to our pitch and one just over the road, along with recycle and general bins.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike. There wasn’t a great deal at the site but what there was, was well maintained.
