  • Peaceful atmosphere and basic amenities near the village of Felindre
Newcourt Farm Campsite is a back-to-basics site in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park. In a designated dark skies area, it's a great base for stargazing and just three miles away from the scenic river Wye, a lovely spot for exploring by canoe or kayak and taking a stroll along the banks. Hike the national park's highest mountain, Pen Y Fan, which is within 35 minutes' drive of the site or head to the Pwll y Wrach nature reserve (10 minutes' drive away) or Waterfall Country (an hour's drive) for waterfalls. The farm has clean showers, toilets and a washing-up area. Supervised school trips and groups such as Duke of Edinburgh Award seekers are welcome, but no late-night revellers please. The site is dog-friendly.

What customers say

Stunning views, spacious sites, and friendly owners. Basic, clean facilities, though showers/toilets are limited & need 50p coins. Pitches can slope; portable toilets mixed reviews. Peaceful rural escape, good value.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Great back-to-basics camping with stunning scenery, dark skies, and helpful staff. Great value for an overnight stop.

Disliked Showers & toilets are a bit of a walk from the camping area, only one male shower for the whole site (not sure about female).

Primitive grass campsite

Liked The owner was friendly and welcoming, the scenery was amazing.

Disliked We booked for 2 nights, only stayed for one, a group in the next field decided it was acceptable to play their music very loudly despite the owner asking them to switch it off, the man then decided to start ranting about the sheep being able to make a noise etc. It is a shame as it was a beautiful place and should have been peaceful. The facilities were not really adequate for the site with only 1 shower for all the women and the same for the men. There were not many level areas to pitch on.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Loads of space, there was about 3 or 4 fields to choose from, amazing views, Bob, the guy who works there, was really nice, good for dog walks - there was a massive field you could let your dog off lead in, warm showers

Disliked The shower cubicles could do with a good scrub

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Its basic but at a very reasonable price Theres plenty of space for kids to run around in and fantastic for star gazing as zero light pollution. Fantastic views great location for exploring the Brecon Beacons

Disliked Like everywhere, there are minor drawbacks - pitches are pretty much all sloped, some a lot more than others, the grass was left long. Only 2 showers each per male/female block which cost extra

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Absolutely beautiful views up the side of the mountain, you can see for miles.
Lots of areas to explore. Clean toilets & shower facilities. Loads of drinking taps dotted around. The owners were present, super friendly & very knowledgeable. Nice pub, service station & river to play in less than a 10 min drive away.

Liked Nothing

Disliked We didn’t stay at this place. We arrived on site and there was nobody to greet us. We walked over to the portal loos and opened all 8 or how many of them they have to be met by thousands of flies in each and every one of them! I doubt those toilets have ever been cleaned. The smell and the caked on excrement was truly shocking! I said to my partner there and then, we’re not staying here! We left shortly after our arrival.

Local attractions

Your boots will be made for walking: this corner of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park has footpaths and trails all around to warm you up before tackling the hill walks and mountains, and all in a spectacular part of Wales made up of valleys, waterfalls, caves and open countryside. There are a couple of walks direct from Newcourt and two long-distance trails cross through the farm: the Offa’s Dyke Path on the eastern border of the national park and the Taff Trail running south from Brecon. The Brecon Beacons Park Society has a full programme of guided walks in the park from moderate to strenuous, and there are lots of routes and maps available from the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority (or just ask Newcourt Farm owner David to point you in the right direction). The national park’s also where you can get your fill of climbing, birdwatching, caving, canoeing, sailing and other outdoor options; a visitor centre six miles from Brecon has all the info you might need as well as courses and events like pottery workshops and navigation training. Also around are several Sustrans routes for cyclists as well cycle hire and cycle tour guide companies; mountain bikers have five mountain bike centres and 14 trails from yellow (level one) to ‘killer black’ (bring plasters). Wheels on tour can cycle the Lôn Las Cymru, the route from Cardiff to Holyhead via Brecon (use route 42). After all that, you hereby have permission to curl up with a book: buy your tomes at the town of books, Hay-on-Wye, about half an hour from Brecon.
