Looking for lots of glamping space and somewhere unusual to lay your head in Ceredigion? The luxurious lodge-pods at Let’s Glamp Retro, 10 minutes’ drive from Llandysul, may very well hit the mark. With cool retro themes reflecting different eras (hello, 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s), these natty units have all sorts of special touches like a 1960s’ record player and lava lamp in one, and psychedelic 1970s-style wallpapers and bedding in another. Sleeping up to six people, these pods are fabulously spacious and each has its own woodfired hot tub (a small charge applies) outside for a touch of decadence during your stay. All are completely self contained, with an ensuite shower and a toilet, plus an induction hob, microwave grill and fridge-freezer in a ‘proper’ kitchen to keep the gourmets among you happy. Outside, the lodge-pods have private gardens with stunning views over a pond to the hills from spacious decking, and alfresco seating for warmer evenings. There’s no stumbling around in the dark either here, as the pitches are prettily lit up at night. Now a bit of practical stuff: dog owners, while your pets are welcome, please keep them on a lead on site, as the owners have chickens running loose and a dog of their own. A fenced-off exercise field will take care of any canine zoomie attacks.

Local attractions

To taste some local specialities, take the tour of the dairy at Caws Teifi Cheese, or stop off at Dà Mhìle Distillery (both 10 minutes’ drive), where one of the world’s first organic whiskies is distilled. Ceredigion honey is available to buy from New Quay Honey Farm (15 minutes), where you can also watch the bees going busily about their business. Those intrigued by engineering can drop by the Internal Fire Museum of Power (15 minutes) to admire the oldest working diesel engine in the world, while the National Wool Museum (20 minutes) has a display of gorgeous textiles and hands-on weaving activities for families. More local crafts are produced at Moriath Glass (25 minutes), where you can pick up colourful artisan jewellery and bespoke bowls. If you've brought the kids along, treat them to a day of animal adventure at Fantasy Farm Park (half an hour), where they can meet cuddly ponies and friendly ferrets, or bottle feed lambs in spring. If you hit a rainy day, cart younger kids along to The Moody Calf Play Barn (15 minutes) for a romp around the soft-play area while you sneak in a tasty afternoon tea.
