View of aber bay and the site

  • Peaceful site by Clarach beach, 10 minutes’ drive from Aberystwyth
  • Silver Mountain Experience and Devil's Bridge within 30 mins' drive
  • Heated indoor pool on site, plus clubhouse with bar and restaurant
Ready for stunning views of Cardigan Bay in the morning and spectacular sunsets over the sea? Sounds like a trip to the west coast of Wales is on the cards, then. And when you do make your way to Ceredigion, you should certainly consider a stay at Aber Bay Holiday Park. This peaceful, family-friendly spot is just north of Aberystwyth (10 minutes’ drive), which you can reach by car or via a splendid walk along the Ceredigion Coast Path, which takes in dramatic cliffs and more of those unforgettable bay views. After all this talk of bay and coast, you might be wondering: just how close is the beach from the site? Well, Clarach beach is about a 10-second walk: literally just across the road and a patch of grass – how convenient is that? On days when the water is too cold or too rough for you, you can retreat to the indoor (heated) swimming pool, or just enjoy the spectacle of the sea from the terrace of the clubhouse, from where you can take in a vast stretch of coastline with a meal from the restaurant and/or a glass of something chilled in hand. Meanwhile, the kids can busy themselves at the outdoor play area or in the games room… Dogs are welcome at the site, and they can also join you on the beach (provided they stay on the north side of the Clarach river); they should have a jolly good time exploring rockpools and hidden coves.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Relaxed camping near a beautiful bay. Good to have some facilities nearby (club, food, swim etc).

Disliked No soap in campsite toilets.
Often no toilet roll in toilets.
Not often checked/cleaned.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked The views were great

Disliked Although the club house is impressive, the bar staff fail to clear and clean the tables leaving the terrace covered in a plague of flys. The camping toilets were vile, hadn’t been cleaned, no toilet paper. Excrement all over the place. The porta shower block wasn’t much better. After realising the facility’s were this disgusting we found alternative accommodation elsewhere in Wales.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Fantastic view from campsite and from bar area, individual plots marked in family part of the site. Quiet after around 10.30

Lifeguard presence to beach. Fantastic coastal walk to Aberystwyth.

Disliked Very poor toilet and shower arrangements - far too few toilets for the size of the field. No toilet paper, no soap. Most loo doors didn't lock. No hot running water to wash dishes (only two sinks), no drinkable stands (water from same taps at washing up). Double the facilities would have made for a far better experience.

Despite being told security would tell people to move cars away from tents at night, it didn't happen - people left car engines on for long time at night. Communal bins overflowing.

Whilst a fantastic view out to sea, this was an odd valley with what felt like thousands of mobile homes. Beachfront poor.

Roof tent primitive grass campsite

Liked Short 5min walk to beach and amenities
Optional use of indoor pool (£5 per person)
Clubhouse with bar and restaurant

Disliked Rooftents had to set up in different area to others away from toilet/shower block, as you weren’t allowed to park next to pitch in other area (despite people actually doing this)

Roof tent primitive grass campsite

Liked Location

Disliked Doesn't take Campervans, no electric hookup, pitchup still made the booking though. The site was very understanding though and said if I couldn't get sorted they would do something for me

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked We had a great week! Short 10 min walk (20 with children lol) to the beach, chippy and pizza restaurant and Clarach bay shop. Was nice and peaceful in the week but very loud busy come the weekend. We opt for no electrics so we just enjoy games and the peace and quiet that’s what camping is about! Each to their own. Toilets and showers were cleaned every morning with toilet paper provided by site.

Disliked That no one stuck by the rules and people were still parking cars next to tents and blaring loud music out when children were sleeping. Not enough checks on the site as it was a distance away from main reception.

Didn’t use swimming as £5 extra per person no matter the age

Recommend to friends Visit again

Didn’t use the pool advertised as you have to pay extra.

Roof tent primitive grass campsite

Liked Nice area, close to beach, lovely club house with great menu- lots of vegan options available. Check in was easy. Quiet campsite with separate roof tent area. Lady who checked us in was nice.

Disliked Lots of nettles in the grass on camping field. No hand soap in the toilets and no hot water access for washing up. Drinking water sinks were also quite short in height from sink to tap so was unable to put larger bottles under to fill up. Check out was a different time to what’s on pitch up.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Great location, and the children loved staying here. There's plenty to do around the campsite but also venturing off. We enjoyed the walk over to consti cafe and down the tram to Aberystwyth.

The sun rises over the fields and sets at sea and you are right in the middle it's gorgeous.

The swimming pool was amazing, so clean and you couldn't tell there was chlorine it was very clear. The showers were very warm and plenty of private changing space. Lockers available at no extra cost.

Campsite facilities were cleaned daily, warm shower and enough availability for everyone.

Clubhouse was fab for us, not overcrowded, plenty of indoor and balcony seating. Very comfortable, reasonably priced with darts and pool table. Great spot to watch the sun setting and have a drink.

Disliked If you're camping you do have to pay £5 each to use the pool.

Campsite doesn't like you to have your car next to your tent, but the designated car space isn't too far from you. However lots of travellers ignored this rule and the campsite didn't really seem to mind.
