Direct access from the park

  • Secluded seaside family park
  • Direct access to a spectacular sandy beach
  • Shop, takeaway and picnic area
What a secluded and sandy Scottish sojourn can be had at Sandyhills Bay Holiday Park: it's by the sea with smashing views over the bay and has direct access to a beaut beach. And it's in lush locale for foresty and nature walks too, as it's close to the RSPB reserve at Mersehead and the walking trails and wildlife of Dalbeattie Forest. More? Sandyhills is also near the yachting village of Kippford and shooting down slopes on the world-famed 7stanes mountain bike trails, and has an 18-hole golf course, riding centre and an indoor swimming pool with restaurant all a short walk away. The Sandyhills Bay facilities are kept to excellent standards and include a modern heated toilet and shower block, a launderette and covered washing-up sinks. A well-stocked shop is next to reception along with a beach takeaway and picnic tables. Wardens are on site if you need any help or info during your stay. And yet more evidence of Sandyhills Bay's lush locale? The spectacular coastal walk to Rockcliffe, shown on More 4's Walks with my Dog programme, starts from the park.

What customers say

This well-kept campground boasts amazing beach views & direct coast access, perfect for strolls. Staff are always lauded as friendly & helpful. Facilities are mostly clean, though some found them a bit dated & occasionally crowded. It's described as peaceful & family-friendly, with many planning return visits. A few guests noted issues with uneven pitches, Wi-Fi, & the store's limited stock.

Liked Nice clean site access straight to the beach
Beautiful views over the bay
Very quiet site low light pollution for great night sky
Showers and toilets not new but clean and maintained well good pressure too

Disliked Almost all the tent pitches have no flat space and a lot of holes from all the rabbits.

Liked Incredible location.
Two adults and two dogs, direct access to beach.

Level pitches with decent space.

Disliked As a touring caravan I did not like the set up as we were surrounded by static caravans. Just a personal preference.

The flooring in the toilet and showers was treacherous. So slippery. I nearly went over myself and saw 2 people stack it.

Showers don’t drain well. Adding to the issue of the slippery floors.

Tired facilities.

£6.50 for internet. Rubbish. The signal you get from this is so poor there is no point in paying extra. If you’re craving signal, then go to the beach. 4G there.

I had a question prior to arrival so emailed info@gillespie-leisure.co.uk a week before arrival- got no response.

Powered grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Beach access from site, friendly staff. Easily accessible site.

Disliked Pitch 25 has a large electrical box partly obstructing the pitch, didn't really feel like a pitch had a very squashed feeling. Bathroom floors seemed to be wet and sandy each morning. Most of the showers were so small that there wasn't any dry floor to get dressed on, really needed a shower curtain to divide area. Gents bathroom had a smell of urine on the Saturday evening.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Lovely views. Helpful, friendly staff onsite accommodated us when we arrived, as my daughter and her family were also booked, so that we were next to each other.
Nice family campsite. Decent shower and toilet block. Shop onsite and another to the left a mile or two, turn left along the road it's on the right.
Lovely beach walk along to Needles Eye with caves along the way.
Kids loved the rabbits on the campsite

Disliked Despite the rules stating no noise and keep to paths, a large family group kept cutting between the tents. The adults and children inconsiderately chatting during the night time toilet trips at 3, 4 and 5.30 am waking us up and setting the dog off.
Other than that, it was fine.

Liked It was a lovely , clean site and great facilities. The staff were super friendly and accommodating.
It would be even better if the shop had even more supplies like milk etc.
The restuarant up the road ( crab pot) is amazing and such lovely staff.

Local attractions

Dumfries and Galloway is a cracking part of Scotland, filled with museums, gardens, wildlife, walks, art galleries and farms for the small to pet animals, play and see how much ice cream they can wangle out of the grownups. Towards Dumfries is Mabie Farm Park, the Paul Jones Museum and Sweetheart Abbey; in town, you'll probably find a festival at any time of the year, along with shows at Scotland's oldest working theatre the Theatre Royal and exhibitions at Dumfries Museum. Also have a potter around the Motte of Mark, the village of Castle Douglas and Galloway Forest Park; info on what to see and do in Dumfries and Galloway is in the reception.
