Stopover on the headland
Bench seating on the headland overlooking the moray firth
Aerial view of the site

  • Basic, dog-friendly motorhome and campervan stopover
  • Within walking distance of Fraserburgh’s beach and harbour
  • Access to the Moray Coast Trail and North East 250; firepit on site
Opposite the Moray Firth, which has a colony of seals in the summer and the northern lights under the right conditions in the winter, Glenbuchty Stopover Motorhome Aire is a basic stopover with sea views, great for a night or two. Suitable for motorhomes and campervans with an on-board toilet, the hardstanding pitches have access to the Moray Coast Trail and the North East 250 for longer hikes or road trips. There are seating areas on the headland and inside the garden walls, as well as a firepit that guests are welcome to make use of. It’s a pet-friendly spot, handily for those walking the Moray Coast Trail with their canine companion. There’s water, recycling bins, seating areas and black waste disposal, and any vehicles adapted for sleeping are welcome, just as long as they have a toilet. The coast is popular with not just hikers, but also visiting minke whales and orcas, as well as a seal colony who live directly opposite the stopover in summer. The friendly aire’s next to a cottage by the sea, just outside of Fraserburgh, which is an easy one and a half-mile walk or a five-minute drive or cycle (there’s a cycling path just opposite). With a supermarket, takeaway and bus stop a quarter of a mile away, the location’s really rather handy. There’s a nice bunch of varied cafés, tearooms and restaurants in Fraserburgh too of course, if you’re channelling your inner foodie. Fraserburgh has a busy shellfish port, harbour, lighthouse (the oldest lighthouse in Scotland, and built on a castle keep). Call by the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses, which has a café with a stunning view. The sandy Fraserburgh beach is often blessed with splendid surf (for which there’s a surf school set up). Other spots around Fraserburgh include a golf course, bowling alley and indoor pool.

Powered cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked: Great stop for overnight. Only room for 5 vans. We stayed with the electric hookup and the owner came out, plugged us in and was very knowledgeable about the area and things to do and see in Fraserburgh.

Disliked: Slightly noisy with the road until quite late, but didn’t notice it eventually.

Primitive cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked: Is what it is…. a stop over for £5. Excellent value and ideal on travels on a budget.
Water and recycling bins. No waste bin though.
For an extra £5 can empty black tank. Views of the sea stoop up top or on the private shore. Seals about. Birds etc.
Hosts both very friendly and most helpful.

Disliked: Road noise was awful.
View sat out.

From the manager: Thanks for staying and I’m glad you found us excellent value.
I’m sorry we can’t provide a normal waste bin but this would add a large charge for us annually meaning we could no longer offer a £5 stopover making us unviable. I believe as someone with connections to a campsite yourself you should understand that. With recycling bins provided for food, plastic, tins, cans, paper, cardboard and glass and a dog waste bin just 100 yards from the site I think most rubbish is catered for.
We are located beside a B road, which makes access to us easy and the noise dies down overnight. You did choose to sit out by your van (all pitches do have a sea view unlike your review suggests) as it was lovely weather although is not the intention of our site as a basic Aire which is not designed for camping behaviour. However perhaps if you had made use of the seating areas we provide above and beyond basic Aire facilities on our headland or in the garden, you could have had a lovely view and been away from the road.

Liked: Good value for money, owners really friendly and gave us a lots of information about the local area.

Disliked: No general waste bin on site.

From the manager: Glad you found us friendly and our information was useful. Sorry there’s no general waste bins - these are not listed as facilities to expect. We clearly advertise that we provide recycling bins( we are keen to help the environment and lighten your load as best as we can). Unfortunately if we added general waste we would not be able to maintain our fantastic £5 a night fee due to waste removal charges.

Friendly and very fair price!
