  • Peaceful rural park within one mile of Cong village
  • On the only public road to Lough Corrib, a short stroll away
  • Living room, barbecue area, playground, kitchen and guest lounge
Just a mile from the scenic village of Cong—often hailed as one of Ireland's top tourist spots—is Cong Camping Caravan and Glamping Park. Set in the stunning landscapes of County Mayo and a short drive from County Galway, it's a fine spot for families and fans of nature. Just a short drive away, there are forest trails, scenic lakeshore walks and adventurous activities such as kayaking or rowing boats. Local village Cong was the filming location for The Quiet Man, a classic movie starring John Wayne. It's also the setting for Cong Abbey, where Ireland's last High King spent his final years, and home to Ashford Castle, the medieval fortification updated in Victorian times by the Guinness family. One final honorary mention: Oscar Wilde spent many childhood summers in Cong too. Between Lough Mask and Lough Corrib, the site is on the only public road to Lough Corrib (the lough is a kilometre away). Get ready for strolls and hikes too: around 2,000 acres of woodland surrounds the village for forest walks and walks along the lake shore and riverbanks. Site facilities include a kitchen and a barbecue area available for guests, a living room, a playground and a freezer in which to stash any catches landed at the surrounding rivers. Local information and maps are available on site; there's also a campers' kitchen and a laundry facility.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite

Liked: The campsite was good but we were given site No. 10 which never gets any sun so the pitch, including the handstand is very dirty. It was pretty good though as we have 2 dogs and our grass area was large so we could play ball whilst they were tethered us. Facilities were immaculate. It had a good vibe. Staff were lovely and very helpful. Laundry facilities immaculate.

Disliked: Our pitch was a bit rubbish. Avoid pitch 10

Disliked: I booked really early and expected to get a good site near the facilities which I didn't. Couldn't find the bins which were ' hidden ' with wooden fencing .

Liked: A lovely clean, quiet and friendly site. Nice cozy lounge and well equipped kitchen. Laundry facilities too.

Disliked: Showers were very clean and hot water, would be nice if E1 was included in the cost of the pitch for convenience.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite

Liked: Location was great for Cong. A nice scenic 20 min walk past the castle.

Nice facilities, clean hot showers .

Disliked: Some of the hard standing pitches were a little like parking spaces. But the areas we were in were spacious and we had a grass area. So personally I would book a pitch with an awning space then you get some grass.

Power optional grass tent campsite

Liked: Lovely camp. Excellent location. Very good campers kitchen. Clean facilities. Lovely office staff. Good WiFi.

Local attractions

See the sights of Cong before getting into the countryside around Cong Camping Caravan and Glamping Park. As well as Ashford Castle (20 minutes' walk) and Cong Abbey (25 minutes), you can also mosey around the Quiet Man Cottage Museum (25 minutes) with replica sets from the film; guided tours of the film locations are available daily. Fishing is available nearby: the area surrounding Cong is an anglers' haven with waterways between Loughs Mask and Corrib. You could also set off on days of cruises, horse riding and pony trekking, falconry, bike hire and golf. The site is a short drive away from many spectacular spots: lakes, rivers, lush forests and mountains. Plus, ghost tours are to hand too if you feel up for it: ask the Cong Caravan team or in the village for details. Caves, castles, stone circles and cairns are within easy driving distance and both Galway and Westport are close for urban days out. Travelling further afield, Cong is 55 minutes' drive from the Wild Atlantic Way signature discovery point at Killary Harbour.
