Appreciate spectacular views? Well… O’Connors Campsite has them in spades. This peaceful County Kerry stopover on the Dingle Peninsula has a spacious camping field where you can pick your own pitches overlooking Brandon Bay on the long-distance Wild Atlantic Way. Stay a while on this quiet, family-run campsite between the sea and the mountains of West Kerry, and you’ll surely fall in love with the stunning outlook to Mount Brandon and surrounding peaks. There are also numerous gorgeous beaches within 10 minutes’ drive, with Dingle and Castlegregory both about 15 minutes away. Any kids travelling with you will probably also fall in love with the small farm animals on site too. If you’re on for some good wholesome Irish craic during your stay, all you need to do is hotfoot it into O’Connors pub adjacent to the site, where you’ll receive a warm welcome, home-cooked pizzas and curries, and a lively line in music from local musicians. When you’re not feeling quite so sociable, the pub also does takeaways for you to carry back to your pitch, or you can spark up the barbecue – perhaps just in time to witness a stunning sunset on a clear day. If you are going down the self-catering route, there’s a convenience store selling essentials, pastries and pasties five minutes’ stroll away around the bay.

What customers say

Great location with stunning views! Staff are friendly, and the pub's food and atmosphere are a hit. However, facilities, especially restrooms, are dated and can be basic/inadequate, with some clean/payment issues. Still, many find it great value for the location and experience.

Primitive grass tent campsite (family)

Liked Fairly laid back place close to the water

Disliked Too many people squashed into small campsite, you have to pay for showers and there are very few of them. I never found the toilets (unless they are shared with the pub).

Primitive grass tent campsite (two person)

Liked We camped using a tent and car. We were given a spot at the grassfield next to the field where the campervans were parked.

Really great view upon the bay! Nice pub and Max was very kind.

Disliked The first day, it wasn't super busy at the camp site. The next day, we found out it could get quite chaotic on the field, as the spots aren't numbered (they are on the campervan field though) and - to our personal feeling - there were too many people for the available space. It was really packed and difficult to drive in between all spots.

The campsite has 2 toilets and 2 showers, which is not enough for this many people.

We did have a good night of sleep and really enjoyed the view (and a pint in the pub). The campsite is cheap, but as we mentioned, practically seen, not the best organisation on the field.

Disliked Loos and shower facilities poor and only 2 showers and 2 loos. Fine if you have a fully equipped campervan. No facilities for washing dishes or emptying grey water or loos.

Local attractions

If you’re planning on attending the Féile Lughnasa festival (the last full weekend of July), book your stopover at O’Connors Campsite well in advance to enjoy several days and nights of music and singing, sand-sculpture competitions, pet shows, a vintage-car exhibition and a pilgrimage up Mount Brandon (about an hour’s walk). There are many other walks in the locality, ranging from short strolls around Brandon Bay to harder slogs up to Arraglen Ogham Stone (two and a half hours), where there’s also a memorial to a crashed military plane as well as far-reaching views over moorland hills to the Atlantic Ocean. Otherwise, try sections of the Dingle Way, a walking trail that winds around the whole peninsula. Driving the rugged coastal Wild Atlantic Way? West Kerry sights on your itinerary might include the narrow, twisting drive through Conor Pass, dotted with lakes and waterfalls, the soft sandy beach at Fermoyle Strand (just the spot for family picnics) and the viewing deck with ocean vistas at Brandon Point (all 10 minutes).
