Primitive grass campsite

Liked Good field for pitches, spacious. Guests were quiet, short walk to pubs and shops. Gate is locked for the site so you feel secure.

Disliked Toilets and showers not what we thought (with photos you assume this is the large green barn building), were in fact very small cabins with showers and others with toilets. Weren’t the cleanest. Website says to go to any available pitch - however ended up pitching on someone else’s who needed electricity unlike us. Was told there was a note about this on the toilet door however was unclear until this time. The facilities are far away for those staying across the other side of the field.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Space, quiet and lovely views

Disliked Toilets - there were not enough, even though the campsite wasn’t busy, and having to queue for a long time.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Lovely flat open site, not too busy so plenty of room for all campers to spread out. We were with a small group of friends with campervans so we could park up together in our own space. Approx 20 minute walk to the village of Hinden which has 2 lovely pubs. Campfires & stargazing at night.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Nice open, level space, secured by a padlocked gate with a code which was locked at all times.
4 Toilets & 4 showers in a block with two washing up sinks behind. All were clean and tidy

Disliked Could do with a light in the washing up area

Powered grass campsite

Liked We loved everything about this site, the large field was well looked after, arrival instructions were clear and straightforward, facilities were simple but a great added luxury. A perfect base for us, and we all wish we'd been able to stay longer. Will definitely be back.
Two pubs and a lovely village shop are a 15 min walk down a small lane/footpath... and a chip shop is a 10 min drive!

Powered grass campsite

Liked Nice clean site, 0.6 miles off the main road but still quite quite at night time, good clean toilets and showers, short walk to nearest town where pubs are available.

Footpaths and bridleways for walks close by.

Local attractions

Whether you’re taking the dog for a wander or sloping off for a well-earned pint in the pub you’ve come to the right place for country walks – there are oodles of paths to pick from in the local area. If you'd rather pedal, have a chat with the folk at local outfit Cranks and Planks for e-bike hire. For a rather grander backdrop to your rambles, aim for the gorgeous gardens at Stourhead (15 minutes’ drive) or the lakeside Old Wardour Castle (20 minutes) – this latter is in a ruined state but still intact enough for youngsters to play at being knights. Surely no visit to this area would be complete without stopping by at Stonehenge (20 minutes) to see the ancient circle up close, and taking a stroll around Salisbury (half an hour) to explore its market and gaze up at the cathedral’s 123-metre spire. A full day out should certainly be planned at Longleat (20 minutes) as well – alongside the drive-through safaris are friendly farm animals, a mini railway to ride on, a castle-themed playground and one of the biggest hedge mazes in the world (plus a very smart house with formal gardens and art collection, if that’s more your thing…)
