What customers say

A small, friendly, peaceful campsite in a beautiful rural setting, with great walks nearby. Facilities are clean, with some noting underfloor heating. The owner is praised as welcoming. Downsides: occasional train noise and some areas could be tidier.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked The showers were exceptional, great for a pit stop.

Disliked Very small space so felt we were on top of the people around us. The trains are so loud they vibrate everything, they do not run through the night but start early morning.

Liked Made to feel very welcome. Good toilets and shower facilities. Local area lovely for walks. Lovely food at the local pub.

Disliked The passing trains (albeit only about 2 an hour) are close by and rather noisy.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Very nice and friendly place. Corina helped me out when I needed it and did the best to make us feel taken care of and well. Quiet spot with friendly, curious cows in the next field. Super clean facilities. Thanks for everything.

Disliked The train can be loud and drives until late in the evening.

Local attractions

So you’ve visited medieval Salisbury (25 minutes’ drive), gazed at the Magna Carta in Salisbury Cathedral and (hopefully) defeated an escape room, but what about Old Sarum (25 minutes)? The ruins are where Salisbury’s first settlers lived and nowadays, visitors can climb up the ramparts, see where the original cathedral once stood and admire the Iron Age hillfort too. Wilton (10 minutes) was the ancient capital of Wessex and well worth a stop for walks along the Wylye river, the markets and Wilton House (15 minutes). Historical sites don’t end just there, though, as further out, there are the 14th-century ruins of Old Wardour Castle (20 minutes) and grand Kingston Lacy (40 minutes), where there are Japanese gardens, play areas, art and antiquities and garden tours. If it’s a safari day you’re after, that’s not as unthinkable as you’d expect in the Wiltshire countryside, because Longleat (half an hour) has a self-driving safari park with a lion and monkey enclosure. You’re more likely to see New Forest ponies roaming around New Forest National Park (40 minutes). Canoeing, cycling, hiking, hiking – all sorts, really – can be tracked down here, but if it’s the coast you’re really after, Bournemouth (55 minutes), Poole (55 minutes) and Lymington (an hour and 10 minutes) are further on.
