  • Touring site at a classic country pub in the Wiltshire countryside
  • A 10-minute drive to the Kennet and Avon Canal; 25 minutes to Bath
  • Local ales and homecooked meals; large field for dogs to run free
Pull up to The Poplars for country walks and road trips, followed by local ales and home-cooked meals back at base. This touring site is in the grounds of a friendly traditional pub and should make a nice spot for a weekend trip or a longer rural retreat. With just a small number of pitches, it's a peaceful place surrounded by the Wiltshire countryside and within a half-hour drive of Bath and Stourhead. Arranged around the edge of a large field, the pitches have their own electric hook-up points. There is ample space to unwind; kids and dogs are welcome to run free in the field, and the pub also has an outdoor seating area. There is a bus stop opposite the site with a direct 10-minute connection to Bradford-on-Avon. Trowbridge, the county town of Wiltshire, is only a five-minute drive away too, should you fancy browsing its shops, cafés or supermarkets. While you're staying at this handy base, you might want to head out to the Kennet and Avon Canal for a peaceful walk or cycle past Dundas Aqueduct and scenic villages. Bath, 25 minutes’ drive away, also has a wide range of attractions including Roman baths, the Jane Austen Centre and Bath Abbey.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite

Liked Fabulous Restaurant & Bar with excellent food. Perfect hosts, regularly checking that I was ok. Plenty of outside space, tables & benches for outside dining. Everywhere was clean & tidy. Lovely big field for dogs to run around in. Perfect weather

Disliked The pitches were backed onto a very busy main road. Quite a bit of traffic noise. Could do with a fence across to deaden the traffic noise & to make it more secure for dogs staying on the pitches.
Could do with an outside toilet for campers.

We paid to stop in a car park on a busy road.

Power optional cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked Easy to find. Nice pub with food.

Disliked We paid for camping with no electric. We were told to park in the front of the pub in the car park, right on the main road. The lovely field as described was out of bounds for parking, so we couldn't sit outside in the sun. . The road was very noisy. The staff were unfriendly and treated us as though we were a nuisance, especially when we only bought drinks. As we didn't need electric we might as well parked in a layby.

From the manager: Dear Nicky,

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet your expectations, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.

We’d like to clarify a few details to help avoid any misunderstandings for future guests. The pitch you were allocated was a non-electric one, as per your booking. All our pitches—both electric and non-electric—are situated at the front of the pub, and this is clearly reflected in the photos provided. The grass field, which begins approximately 40cm from where you were parked, was entirely available for your use during your stay. Guests are welcome to sit out, relax, and enjoy this space, and we’re sorry if this wasn’t made clear at the time.

We’re also sorry to hear that you found our staff unfriendly. We aim to ensure all our guests feel welcome, whether they’re dining with us or simply stopping by for a drink. Your comments have been noted and will be shared with the team as part of our ongoing efforts to provide warm and inclusive hospitality.

Thank you again for your feedback. We hope you’ll consider visiting us again in the future.

Warm regards,
The Poplars Team
