  • Peaceful riverside site five minutes’ drive from Pewsey in Wiltshire
  • Stonehenge, Silbury Hill and Avebury all 20 minutes’ drive
  • Direct access to a pub and beer garden; shops five minutes’ drive
Right in the centre of the North Wessex Downs National Landscape and hugging the banks of the River Avon, the family-friendly site at Wiltshire’s Woodbridge Inn offers up three acres of leafy grounds to spread out and relax in. Surrounded by sleepy rural hamlets with old-world names like Manningford Bruce and Honey Street, the site has a handy location five minutes’ drive from the pretty town of Pewsey, its shops and restaurants. And even handier, it comes with a pub attached to it. The Woodbridge is an 18th-century coaching inn well-known for its traditional Sunday roasts; the pub serves local beers brewed in Devizes and has a riverside beer garden with a play area for younger guests. You can also order picnic meals for your jaunts around the North Wessex Downs to mysterious Stonehenge and ethereal Avebury (both 20 minutes’ drive). Back on site, simple facilities include an up-cycled amenities hut with showers. You can go paddleboarding and fishing on the Avon, and there are plenty of riverside walks so you can exercise any canine chums who are along for the ride.

What customers say

Charming, peaceful riverside campground with a friendly vibe. Guests love the helpful staff, great food at the pub, and beautiful location. Facilities are clean & functional, though some suggest updates & more restrooms during peak times. Dog-friendly with river access on some sites. Despite minor amenity concerns, many found it a good value and would revisit.

Primitive cement/asphalt campsite

Liked Lots of Space. I liked not having to pay extra for awning & tent!
Nice owners.
Relaxed Setting.
Shower is fine.
Great for dogs.

Disliked Toilet drains overflowing with toilet waste. Lack of pitch organisation. Only 1 toilet in women’s and always a queue.
Pub food a bit expensive.

Power optional cement/asphalt campsite

Liked Good location and staff were friendly.

Disliked One ladies' toilet for the entire campsite. The toilet seat was broken, and the hand dryer didn't work. No waste bin in the toilet cubicle, and most of the time no toilet paper. Not clear how to contact staff if there were any issues when the pub was closed. Lots of rubbish dotted around the site.

Potential to be a great site, with a tidy up and some maintenance.

Power optional cement/asphalt campsite

Liked Potential to be a lovely site by the river, and food was good. Staff were friendly, although not clear how to contact them when the pub was closed. Although the toilet itself was clean, the building was not, and could do with a deep clean.

Disliked One toilet for ladies is not enough for the number of pitches on the site. Always a queue for the toilet in the evenings and mornings. Toilet roll was constantly running out, although there were two large commercial toilet roll holders in the cubicle, which, if both were filled, would have resolved the toilet paper running out so quickly. The cleaner seemed to replenish with one small toilet roll when it was replaced. No way of contacting the owners to ask for toilet roll when the pub was closed.
The hard-standing pitches have a grass strip, not well maintained, but the strip is very narrow, so you can't really pitch an awning next to your campervan or caravan.
Pitches don't seem to be checked when previous campers have left. Someone had emptied the contents of a fire pit onto our pitch and another pitch, which another family member was on, containing nails and sharp metal. I had to clear them up to make sure our dogs didn't tread on them. Also, lots of cigarette butts around the site and scraps of paper, especially on the hard-standing pitches. Evidence of large rubbish fires on the site, possibly by the owners, that had not been cleaned away. Lots of rubbish, like old pallets around the site, spoiling what should be a picturesque site, being next to the river.
Although a dog-friendly site, no pooh bins.

Power optional cement/asphalt campsite

Liked Warm welcome at the pub on arrival.
Very reasonable price but that reflected facilities.

Disliked Noise of the road was quite bad until very late.
There was only one ladies toilet.
Washing up area wasn’t cleaned up, lots of very old used sponges just left there.

Primitive cement/asphalt campsite

Liked As a location it was just what we needed, easy to book in pub and shown to pitch… when busy would recommend bringing food or booking in advance, local shop a very decent walk away and told pub fully booked when we got there..

Disliked It was very busy but that was the season.. only comment is that it could do with an amenities upgrade if regularly busy, site packed and five in line for the shower.. given hot weather.. it might just be as fully booked.. they worked.. we were happy with that..

Power optional cement/asphalt campsite

Liked Within 20 miles from home, great for a weekend away. A lovely warm welcome from the new owners who took it over on Mothers day this year. The renovation they have done to the Pub is exceptional.
Overall, this is a lovely little site just waiting to be turned into a little Gem, I have no doubt by looking at the pubs refurbishment, the same will be applied to the campsite.
We look forward to returning to see the transformation.
Best wishes and good luck to the new owners.

Disliked The toilet and shower facilities need updating and extending. The camping site was packed and not organised, people seemed to pitch where they wanted. The rubbish/recycling bins were overflowing due to the amount of people on site.

Local attractions

If you’re keen to see some of the mysterious prehistoric relics littered about Wiltshire, head north to the vast stone circles at Avebury, or stop by conical Silbury Hill (both 20 minutes’ drive). Turn south from the site and you can be at Stonehenge, with its all-singing, all-dancing visitor centre, in 20 minutes too. Carry on to the ancient city of Salisbury (35 minutes) to visit the spiky-spired cathedral and Old Sarum Castle (half an hour). Devizes (20 minutes) has a famed brewery to tour, and there are spectacular downs views from the Caen Hill lock flight on the Kennet and Avon Canal just outside town. Another pretty canal-side walk takes in Pewsey Wharf (10 minutes), where scores of brightly coloured barges line the banks. When you want to stay closer to base camp and just potter about, there’s a trout fishery five minutes’ stroll down the road, or you can play a round or two of golf (five minutes’ drive). Take scenic walks along the River Avon from the site, or embark on longer hikes through the undulating North Wessex Downs countryside.
