  • Well-kept Wiltshire site 10 minutes’ walk from Lacock village centre
  • A half-hour drive to Bath; 45 minutes to Stonehenge and Longleat
  • Dog-friendly pitches with a playground and dedicated ball games area
What’s on your wishlist for a Wiltshire outdoor break? A peaceful location? Easy access from a main road? A village close by so you can easily walk to a pub and shop? Somewhere family friendly that also accepts dogs? If you said ‘yes’ to any – or indeed all – of the above, you’ll most likely be rather taken with Piccadilly Caravan Park, in a rural spot 10 minutes’ walk from the National Trust village of Lacock. That handy position means you’ll have several lovely pubs and independent shops close by. As well as being handily within reach of all that, the park is only a little way off the A350, putting it in a good position for getting out and about to explore the rest of what Wiltshire (and beyond) has to offer. Day trips to Bath and Longleat are easily doable in less than 45 minutes’ drive, and there are all sorts of walks and bike rides to be enjoyed locally. Around the site’s well-kept grounds are hedges for privacy and a good collection of facilities, including picnic areas, a small playground and a designated games field where the kids can have a run around. Dogs, too, have a dedicated exercise area where they can stretch their paws properly. Showers, toilets, a washing-up area and a launderette are also part of the picture, and the team here pride itself on keeping the facilities clean and the grounds in excellent shape.

What customers say

A clean, peaceful campsite near Lacock. Newer showers get praise, though some older facilities could use an update. Great for families and dog owners. Spacious pitches. Wi-Fi and shower temps can be inconsistent.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Lovely little campsite. Toilets and showers were spotless.

Disliked Must be some building work or something going on nearby as lots of big Lorries trundling down the country lane by the campsite. Also paid for the site WiFi but it wouldn’t connect to my tablet. Also as it’s a small site you could hear kids shouting and squealing on the play area right up until nearly 10pm. Don’t know where their parents were! I travelled on my own and was looking for bit of peace and quiet. To be fair the lady of the site did tell them to play quieter. Will definitely come again but obviously when the kids are back at school.

Power optional cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Great site for decent size pitches, good big field for the dogs, water close to pitch and brand new park, (my 5 year old said it was missing a slide).
Brand new shower and toilet block which is obviously looked after.
And the best toilet disposal we have ever seen even with a flush button.
Great location for a walk to Lacock.

Disliked Although advertised as child friendly site, we found other campers were not that receptive of us, we have young children but felt other campers were very judgy especially if our kids made a bit of noise.
Also found the wardens didn’t seem that interested, they seemed to greet others as they arrived but we didn’t get the same treatment.
Building site right next door, wasn’t aware of this and come Monday morning at 6 am you can hear all the traffic and machinery.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked We lucked out and got a larger pitch area.
Playground was great for the children. It was safe for older children to ride their bikes around.
Showers and toilets were lovely and clean. A family shower/bathroom which not all sites have and great for both parents being able to help with showering children.
Washing up facilities great. They looked quite new. There was hot water to every sink (not something all sites offer so a big bonus!)
Very quiet site at night - most pitches were in their tents by 9.30pm (we stayed up a little later) silence after 11pm mostly.
Lovely location and a short walk into Lacock. Lovely village with a great park and playing field.

Disliked The only dislike was the road noise. We had a pitch that backed onto the country lane which was fine. But there was some loud vehicles coming up and down the road in the early hours of the morning to a site further up the lane I think. A temporary issue and didn't spoil our stay too much.

Local attractions

As well as centuries-old traditional pubs and several jewellery or design shops, Lacock is home to a beautifully restored tithe barn dating from c.1230. On the outskirts of this gorgeous National Trust-owned village is an 800-year-old abbey that’s had starring roles in both Downton Abbey and the Harry Potter films; the Fox Talbot photography museum is set in the abbey grounds. Other big-hitting attractions in this corner of Wiltshire include the magical Avebury Stone Circles, which link to a mysterious man-made mound at Silbury Hill (both half an hour’s drive). From there, you can continue the prehistoric theme with a visit to spectacular Stonehenge (45 minutes) and its interactive visitor centre. Coming more up to date, Caen Hill Locks (20 minutes) on the Kennet and Avon Canal comprise 29 locks rising 237 feet over two miles and were designed by engineer John Rennie in 1810. There are golf courses and events galore held at Bowood House and Gardens (15 minutes’ drive), while picture-perfect Castle Combe (20 minutes) has repeatedly been voted one of the prettiest villages in the UK.
