  • Grass pitches on a family-run site 20 minutes’ drive from Bath
  • Longleat 20 minutes’ drive; Stonehenge 40 minutes
  • Food truck serving global cuisines; dog-friendly; toddlers' pool
A gastronomic break in Somerset sounds rather intriguing, wouldn’t you say? Well, forget about cooking and washing dishes, as at the family-run (and family-friendly) Farleigh Road Campsite, you can take your tastebuds on holiday to all sorts of destinations – from Hungary to the USA – by sampling the international dishes prepared in the resident food trailer. There’s no shortage of picnic tables on site at which to savour your meal. And when you start hankering for a Sunday roast, all you need to do is walk 10 minutes to Norton St Philip, which is home to one of Britain’s oldest taverns. Sitting in the countryside 20 minutes' drive from Bath and 10 minutes from Bradford-on-Avon, the site is part of a farm. In addition to spacious (and level) grass pitches and peaceful, relaxing vibes, it has an outdoor hot-water shower, plumbed-in toilets and a small launderette. Kids should also appreciate the open-air games and the toddlers' pool. Dogs are also welcome at Farleigh Road Campsite. Farleigh Road sits in the middle of four National Landscapes: the nearest is the Cotswolds (10 minutes), to the north; then there’s Cranborne Chase (20 minutes) to the south; Mendip Hills (half an hour) and Cheddar Gorge (50 minutes) to the west; and, a little farther away, North Wessex Downs National Landscape (an hour) to the east.

What customers say

This friendly, quirky campground near Bath has level, spacious grass sites. Guests loved the kind, helpful hosts, clean facilities, and tasty food truck meals. Some road noise and ongoing shower construction were noted, but the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. Great value, perfect for a stopover.

Liked Really easily accessible and affordable campsite. Very friendly and accommodating owner.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite (large)

Liked Really nice welcome from a gentleman, and then a lovely greeting from a woman when we went to get some food from the brilliant food trailer on site. We were not expecting anything special at 7:45pm and ordered fish and chips , cooked perfectly and because the lovely woman seemed proud of her dish, I wanted to try. Was delicious 😋.

The site has a lovely feel, looks like they get some inspiration from a festival feel and it was nice.
Toilets really actually well done, and we both said they were lovely ( I know toilets aren't lovely but was spotless, and no cheap toilet roll )can see things are being developed re showers.

Disliked Only sad thing was a bit of road noise, as we were next to the road, it was Saturday night so I guess the road was busier that night.
I can see the development of the glamping feild is a priority over campers as that field is empty and we had to park by the hedge next to the road. But I understand.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite (large)

Liked The location, near to Bath. And the washing machine plus dryer.

Disliked Just use it as a stopover, but don’t expect anything. The showers are under construction, and there is one temporarily cabin for everyone with mostly cold water. Watersinks only in the toiletroom, only cold water. Even cold water to do the dishes. The whole experience was overpriced.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite (large)

Liked Friendly site owner with quirky and enjoyable site with some work in progress but clean and tidy , nice food van offering good locally produced meals, good stop over. Level grass pitches with decent space too.

Disliked Next to busyish road so some noise, only one rather open outdoor shower but looks like new block under construction.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite (maximum 7 metres)

Local attractions

A UNESCO World Heritage site, the city of Bath (20 minutes’ drive) is known for its sunken Roman bathhouse and for its connection to Jane Austen, who lived there for five formative years. At the Jane Austen Centre, it’s possible to dress up in Regency-style dresses and bonnets. At Longleat (20 minutes), you can choose the mode of transport for your safari tour: you can walk or drive through the park, or you can ride a boat on a lake, going past Monkey Island and the gorilla enclosure, and spotting hippos and sea lions. Other residents at the park include cheetahs, giraffes and African dogs. The prehistoric stone circle at Stonehenge (40 minutes) is thought to be about 5,000 years old. With the tallest standing stone being about 23 feet tall, it’s certainly an impressive, awe-inspiring monument. The site also includes burial mounds and the Avenue, a path crossing Salisbury Plain and leading to the River Avon.
