What customers say
Highly recommended campsite with stunning, peaceful views. Owner Dawn offers exceptional hospitality. Site praised for natural beauty, tranquility, and wildlife. Clean facilities. Access roads are narrow but destination is rewarding. A few noted showers could be warmer/more spacious.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked Stunning views, easy to find a pitch, quiet and beautiful. Just a lovely spot. Clean toilets and kitchen block. The part of the field with the best views was sloped but it was pretty much fine!
Disliked The fire pit situation, sadly. We found the wood and slab for the fire pit but couldn’t find the actual pit. Tried to message Dawn but had no signal for a mile or so around the site (only got signal back when on the a39).
A fellow camper kindly messaged Dawn for us but I think it was too late in the evening (maybe after 20:30) so no luck. Watched with envy as other campers sat round their fires cooking and enjoying the stars

From the manager: Thank you for your great review. I think I spoke to you about fires earlier in the evening, when it was windy and explained that the ground is like a tinderbox and we're not encouraging firepits at the moment. Thank you so much for not lighting a fire. We ask campers to buy logs on site and if other campers were burning their own logs last night - hmm, tut, tut! Thank you for letting me know about that too. We appreciate you being responsible when there is such a fire risk.
Definitely coming back, cracking site 👌

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked We booked to stay at Porlock Vale for 7 nights. On first arriving we were the only ones to our delight! So had plenty of space to drive around and find the perfect pitch for us. My first thought was how breathtaking the views were and how much space there was to walk our big boy (Bernese mountain dog). We were spoilt for choice of where to pitch up but chose the top end of the field as you then had views of the sea and the surrounding moors, fields and forest. Not forgetting the beautiful sunset in the evenings!
There was immaculate toilets and showers (flushing toilets x 2 and a compost toilet)
( x2 showers) the shower was great, lovely and warm with good pressure)
There is a little hut where the washing up area is with warm water and all the little extras you need incase you’ve forgotten your own. Washing up liquid etc…
Also under the hut is logs, for you to purchase for a cosy fire… we didn’t need these as we had our own eco fire pit. There are bottles of water to purchase and can pay using the honesty box which came in handy. There is so, so much I could keep writing about this site it’s honestly beautiful, being surrounded by such immaculate grounds with wildlife and not forgetting the exmoor pony project which Dawn the owner works tirelessly to run. Dawn has done amazing work with these beautiful creatures and continues to do so. If you get a minute take a look at her books explaining how one of the ponies, ‘Monsieur Chapeau’ helped her understand these ancient beauties even more!
Thank you Dawn for your kindness and sharing this beautiful space with us. Thank you to Rosie and Mia for helping Monty learn some manners too… we miss you all already but we will most definitely be back!
Disliked Nothing! We even booked an extra night

From the manager: Thank you so much, Michelle. It's been lovely to meet you both and the gorgeous young Monty and to see his confidence grow with all the new experiences. Thank you for being such respectful and happy campers and very much looking forward to welcoming you back. I'm so glad you had the opportunity to meet the Exmoor pony herd too. Monday's can be a great day to arrive if you're looking for super peace and quiet.
A beautiful spacious site for those wanting peace and tranquillity.
Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked This is a beautiful secluded site with views of the Bristol Channel. The access is along narrow lanes, so definitely not suitable for motorhomes, but our campervan was fine. There was a slight slope on our pitch, so we used levelling chocks. 2 Flushing toilets and 1 compost toilet for the site. The 2 showers were a bit dodgy, but Dawn quickly addressed the problem when we told her. She came round every evening to check that everything was ok. The covered dish washing area is spacious with good hot water.
There were great walks directly from the site.
Disliked We were unable to access any WiFi, despite being advertised, and no 4G reception.

From the manager: Hi David, thank you for your review and I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay. To point out, we don't accept motorhomes or caravans - only campervans and tents. These are country lanes, and villagers and tractors and trailers navigate them quite happily, and we benefit from having very little traffic on them. The 4G is there although it's efficiency depends which network provider you have - for example, I sent a series of high-res photos to a camper last night which they received with no problem.
We use the excellent Showerking glamping showers and they're generally pretty good, which is great on our off-grid site. I always encourage campers to report any issue straight away, like a gas bottle running out, and we'll be right on it. Thankfully, they are very reliable.

Liked Peaceful site with lovely views.
Disliked Lack of freezer for campers use and the hot water tap in the kitchen area is very difficult to turn on if you suffer with dexterity of the hands or arthritis.
Recommend to friends Visit again
From the manager: Hi Noleen, thanks for the feedback. As we're a new and off-grid campsite, there's no electricity for a freezer at the moment. We can hopefully work out something for the future. In the meantime, some other campers bring a portable solar panel and power pack to run their own facilities, which might be something you could look into.

Liked When leaving Porlock Vale campsite yesterday morning we were treated to the magnificent sight of two deer stags crossing the golden field of tall waving grass. It was hard to leave a place where you can wake up to such breathtaking and uninterrupted views of of fields and forests with the Bristol Channel shimmering in the distance. We spent nine days there and loved every second of our stay. With so many varied walks and lovely villages around we could have easily stayed longer. More so because we felt so at home in the great care of Dawn.
Dawn welcomes every visitor with such spirit and enthousiasm
and makes them aware of the uniqueness of the surroundings. (With the ponies of Exmoor Pony Project at the hart of or all. )
Porlock Vale campground is much more than a beautiful camping field (with all the amenities one needs), it is a place so close to nature that it will give you all the calm you need to be aware of the right things in life. Thank you Dawn!!
